How.To.Fix Problems,Fertilizing, Watering, Tips, And Update

Hello you guys. I’m here in my she-shed and you’re looking at right now is my grow shelf and I’m just going to show you how these seedlings are doing. And uh one thing I want to say is I know I don’t have enough light in here. I don’t have enough. But this is where I’m going to keep it at cuz I would really have to buy four uh more of these shop lights to have two on each um shelf. And uh right now I just have one on each shelf and then tried to have two of the uh clamp lights on there. Okay. So I’ll say that right from the beginning that I know I don’t have enough. Okay. But what I do is I move stuff around and I make it work. Okay. Okay. So, I’m sitting down here in a chair that I have in here and I’m showing you this shelf over here. I had a lot of problems this time with um damping off. And I know in the last video I had told you I don’t have diseases and stuff like that. And I’ve never had it before, but I figured out what the problem was is um I had been trying to keep it so warm in here because my house I’m in New York and my rooms aren’t that warm and I knew that these peppers and tomatoes and these things needed warm. So, I kept the door closed and it got real warm and um humid in here was the humidity was very very high and I think that was the cause of my problem. And also I tried some different uh soils and things and I’m not sure that they uh worked the way what I had tried in the past, but what I tried in the past just cost so much this time until I just said I I can’t afford to get that. But here’s one of my this one here. I use my pots. I write on the pot and I write on the tag because I have found out that you think you that sticking that in there is going to work for you. But I have found out once I put it outside I lose these. And um but this is a pepper here and that’s the name of that one. And they see how they different heights in here because these ones they come up different. And that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you from the last video. Sometimes you might something else might need more water than something else does. You know what I mean? This one here, bigger one could stand getting a little bit drier. But this one here is sort of okay. It could stand a little bit too. But some of these smaller ones, they can’t stand that. Now, let me see if I got anything in here. Uh oh, yeah. This is a bell pepper. You can barely see it. Can you see it over there? There’s a bell pepper in there. And uh that was um I didn’t replant it, but it just took a long time to come up. And then over here, let me see this. Okay, I didn’t replant this one either. I’m going to show you one that I have replanted. Uh, but I had told you last time when I put the two on there. Okay, this one has not been replanted. Uh, this is that clary sage um that I’m growing this time and I’m looking forward to that. That’s the first time I’m growing it, but it came up real good in there. And um this is margum uh if I’m saying that right. And this is curly moss parsley deal over here. What is this? Uhhuh. Let’s see what this is cuz I don’t remember. Oh, that’s some collards. I usually direct sew these outside. This my first time that I can remember growing them inside. And I had a little bit of a problem with some of them. I found uh I’m trying to get this back in here. Uh, I found that. Um, I’ll show it to you when I get to them. Um, so here’s one. I think I probably Let me see if I replanted this one cuz it would be a two on here if I did. Yeah. See that two right there? See how I put that two? That means I replanted it. I replanted it. And then see the little one up there that came in and then the other one is bigger. So, they have different water requirements for these two. This little one uh can’t take being as dry as this one here. The bigger one can. So, I have to be careful uh when I’m doing those. And then some of these little small ones like this here. Uh what is that? That’s Bomb. See that one right there? That’s the B bomb. I just missed that. And I be careful. Uh try not to I haven’t had much of the dampening off out here. I’ll show you when I get over to the grow tent. That’s where the zamping off problem had been because let me stand up here. Oh, let me show you this bottom shelf before I stand up. These down here, um, this is the lights that I leave on. This only shelf here that I leave the lights on. Now, this one here and this one here. Nothing may be coming up in these because uh I I replanted them again and I’m keeping them moist and uh I took the plastic off because they’re dampening off. I just didn’t want the plastic on them. And these are old heat mats and I just keep an eye on them cuz the heat mat will dry it out quicker and I just missed them when they need it. But I think you I told you I had bad old seeds. I didn’t know that they was bad, but a lot of them came up. You know, I had stuff going all the way back to 2019 that I planted and that is doing well growing in here. Um, but these here, I’m not sure that they going to come up, but they have been replanted. Okay. So, I’m giving them another chance. If they don’t come up, then what I’ll do is I’ll just go ahead and um get rid of those seeds. But you can do one of two things that this is what I’m gonna do. I can get rid of the seeds or the next time I can plant, I just plant them all. Plant them all in the container and see what comes up. cuz sometimes you’ll get stuff that comes up, but you plant very heavy cuz you going to get rid of the seeds anyway. So that’s what I I’m I’m probably going to do next time and I’m going to make sure that I let mark it on those envelopes because there’s one particular one in here. This Pacilia Bejo I’ve planted twice. This the second planting on this and I know that the seed must be really no good. So next time I’m just going to plant them all. It’s hard for me to throw away seeds y’all. It’s hard for me to throw them away. So I’m just going to make a little note on the envelope and I’m just going to um you know plant it heavy. And this time when I double planted these down here, these over here, I planted them heavy. So, we’ll see what happens with those. But I got them there. And then these over here been replanted. Um um that didn’t come up, but I see I got some deal. The deal was giving me a problem, but there’s one coming up. The deal was giving me some problem. The collaloo was giving me some problem. And uh the collars over in another container. These here are doing good, but there’s some in another container. And uh they’re not old. Well, they some of them the ones that was giving me the problem wasn’t old seeds. Okay. So, let me get up from here and show you. All right. So, down here I have that’s the caraloo there. But that whole thing was full of collalo and that’s the only one survived. And I just planted this cauliflower is coming up real good. And uh I don’t know if I’m going to get any outside cuz how our springs are. And this is coming up over here. And then I showed you the deal plant over there that’s coming up. So some things are coming up down here. These are just uh things that have been planted for the first time. They not replants except for I put some more collalo in there. Now I like I said I normally take the um here we are in the grow tent. Uh I normally take um things and direct sew them. Like my collards I always direct sew them. So this time uh I starting them in here. And that’s something new for me that I haven’t done before. Now um this is how I got this here. Okay. I got these clamp lights here and I can adjust them here and bring them up and down. So, I got them in here and these uh are doing very well in here. But this is the problem that I had the um problem with the fungus. You get the white fungus on the soil and then you get to damp it off. Now, I’mma show you one. I got this letter opener right here. Now, look down in here. You see what I’m talking about? But what I’ve been doing, I’m trying to see if you can see this. I just go in here and disturb it a little bit. I I don’t, you know, be careful of my plant, but I just find I’m disturbing it. And in here also, I opened up. Let me show you what I opened up here. This is what I do. And uh these have been watered for today. This was real real dry, but it’s been watered for the day. But then I let it get real real dry before I’m going to put any more water on it. So that’s how I’ve been fighting that. Okay, these things up here, I opened them up. I made sure they all open. They were closed before. So, I’m making sure that they’re open to get some ventilation in here because what happens is I know for these things they show you uh all the stuff you can buy to put in these, but I can’t afford that. I have to make do with what I have. Okay, so these are are doing good over here. Uh, a lot of things died off with the dampening off, but enough lived because I planted a lot that uh I was able to have, let me move this to the side. I was able to still have some enough. And then I got this over here. Now, I know these lamps I’m not going to show you that bulb to blind you, but these lamps that’s not ideal, but that’s what I had. But I had these lamps around here. I bought some plant light bulbs and I’m making it work. Um, you know, if you on a budget and you’re trying to grow you some seedlings, do the best you can and don’t worry about you got to have a whole bunch of fancy equipment. this dance, like I said in the last video, right here. This here I had um in my basement and I brought it up and I’m using it as a plant stand in here and it’s working out real good. I love it. Somebody handmade it and did a very good job on it. Now, I got down under this desk. This is where I got my seed starting mix. This is where I have uh I don’t bought some um Dr. Earth here to put on these ones. Once they got bigger, I put that on them. Uh and how much I’m putting, I just put my hand in the bag, get a little pinch of it up, and put it around the stem of the plant on each plant. That’s all I do. Okay? So, I keep it simple. And they all looking healthy. I’m not having a problem u fighting the damping off. But um that’s what I find about these grow tents. That’s why when you see them uh when you buy these things, they show you the fans and all this other stuff you’re supposed to buy. But I’m going to show you what I’m using because this is what I can afford right now. But if somebody want to send me some free stuff, they welcome to send it to me and I will certainly use it. Okay, here is the fan that I have set up in the chair. And once I’m finished doing whatever I got to do in here to the plants, I plug the fan in and this fan will continue to be going as long as the lights are on. When the lights go out and I close up my grow tent, then I go ahead and um I cut the um fan off. Okay. Okay. So, I’m just looking around in here cuz this is the room where the dampening off is. See that right there? That white fungus stuff. Now, these are bigger ones. So, when they done got bigger like this, most likely it’s not going to be a problem with it. I don’t know if you can see what I’m doing, but I’m messing around around there. Um, here’s another one over here. If you can see, let me see if I can get how I can get the shot where you can see that cuz I’m getting ready to [Music] um Where is it at? I saw one look like it needed some attention. Okay, from this angle, I can’t see it. Oh, I think it’s this one a little bit. It ain’t got much around it. And I’m just doing that. And this one here, as you can see, is kind of dry cuz it had a lot of damping off. I when they had a lot of damping off, I let them get bone dry. Bone dry before I put anything on them. Um because they big enough to do that. If they were little, you can’t do that. You got to give them water. Okay. Now, over here, I got stuff growing. And I have this lamp. I don’t want to blind you with it, but the bulb is shining on this stuff here. It’s not ideal, but it’s working. They’re getting light and they’re growing. Okay. So, that’s the uh grow tent. Now, I’m still planting. I’m taking my time, y’all. I’m going to enjoy the journey. Don’t forget while you gardening, enjoy the journey. So, I’m That’s what I’m doing. I’m taking my time, not trying to rush and try to get uh all this stuff and all have all this on me. I’m planning in stages. So, um cuz I’m growing a lot of vegetables for 100 container garden. And um when I get finished, these shelves going to have stuff on them. The floor going to have stuff on it. And um these places on this shelf over here that don’t have anything on it, they’re going to be filled in. If those down there don’t grow and nothing comes up this time around, they’ll be gotten rid of and fresh things are going to be different things are going to be put down there. Okay. So, my tomato plants, um some of them I did start over with uh uh let me see this one got a chew on it. Yeah. Here’s one I started. Okay. Here. See that, too? Uh, no, no, no, no. That ain’t for that. That’s the the name of the uh that’s the name of the plant. I’m trying to find one uh that I did know I started over to show you in here. Uh yeah, but most of these they just were planted late and they they they had got that fungus on them and I was battling that and so they some of them are smaller now. This one might have been Yeah, this one here’s one. Let me see where that Oh, there. See that two up there by my thumb? Okay, this one was replanted. Now you can tell right here. See that one? That came up first. only one came up in there and I wanted more than one in there. So then I planted and then I planted two and they both came up. But you see how they are they kind of leggy and um smaller. But I don’t worry about that cuz what I’m going to do, I’m going to put more soil in these things right in the same container. I’m going to add more soil to it. So you got your seed starting mix, but I’m going to add soil on top of that. Okay? And I know that works because I’ve done it on some some of these bigger ones over here. I added soil to them. Not because they were leggy, but to fight off that uh whatever I want to say, dampen off white fungus. I put soil on top of it and it did better. And look how big and nice. Look, look at this. Let me take that out for you. Okay, this is one I know I added soil to. And look at it. See, it’s looking all nice. No problem with it. So, I know that that will work. So, let me put that back in there. And um so, that’s them. And I kind of try to keep the size ones like the smaller ones all try to group them together because I’m trying to adjust the light to the size of the plant. But it’s hard when you have um replanted or stuff didn’t come up to way later. Some seeds I didn’t replant, but one of them just busted out the box coming up right away. And then the other one, now these three, they came all up good. They all came up. And uh what I’m going to do with them, put some extra dirt in here. put some extra dirt in here because I have to move out to my I’mma turn I turn the garage into the greenhouse. But right now the temperatures at night are dropping too low and I cannot put these out there yet. But I set up tables and stuff out there and I put them out to the garage to gently break them into getting adjusted to, you know, not having it all controlled like it is in here. Okay. So, that’s what I’m going to be doing next. So, let me get around here to this side. And uh I got these things over here. I planted some uh here. Let me see if I can get up where y’all can see. Okay, these are Brussels sprouts and I planted a whole bunch of them in there, but they they died with that dampening off and these survived. And so what I did was I planted some more seeds right there in that blank spot. And I let them stay in there because I put nutrition in there for them and they have uh what they need. If you look at my two layer system uh video, you will see what I’m talking about uh how I do it. Okay? And also look at my last video if you haven’t seen that. I’m going to turn this one. And this one here was just planted. So hopefully it’ll come up. And uh these are some more ones that either came up late or I replanted them. That’s why they small. Okay. Now I got a little radio on here. This is not where this radio normally sits, but for this video purpose, this is where it’s at. Uh because I have music on when I’m in here. I sit here and I take care of my plants with some music. Sit in my chair and relax. It’s a comfortable place for me to be in. Now over here, these here, let me put that down. These are okra. Okay, so let me hold them up so you can kind of see them a little bit. So they doing good. And I have like, let me see how many in there. Three is in this in here. And um I added more soil to this. And you see they nice and healthy. Ain’t nothing wrong with them. Um same thing with this one here. I added a little bit more soil to it. And there’s two in here and they’re doing just fine. And uh this one here came up really really late. It was very small, but I added more soil to it and it got stronger and it’s doing fine. This uh here is a tomato Kellogg’s breakfast and it was the same thing with it. It was having that problem and I added some more soil to that. Not much, but it’s doing a lot better and and it’s it’s it’s going to make it, I believe. Now, these are the ones that I told you that I’m having the problem with. These are uh eene felton uh collards. And then this one here is let me see here. Vates v a t e s. Now I usually direct sew y’all. So I direct sew collards. I don’t plant them inside but I’m doing them this time and I don’t know if I’ll do them this time again. So when they this size here, I see y’all be taking them and, you know, potting them up and all that. And you know, I don’t like that potting up stuff. And I’m not going to be selling collards. These are for me. So see that. I don’t know if you can see that down in there, but there’s some of that that that white fungus in there. And and it and it and it’s affecting these. So, they’ll make it or they won’t make it because I try to uh I put a fan on in here. I’ll show you my fan. And uh I’ve started leaving this door open to this room. I’m just disturbing this soil. That’s all I’m doing. A little bit. But by these being so delicate, uh it’s only so much I could do is disturbing it without I don’t want to do any damage because that would be defeating the purpose of what I’m doing. Okay. So, but I’m having a little bit of a problem with these right here. And I’m just showing you now. Comment below and ask and let me know, would you take these little bitty ones? To me, they little bitty. Would you take these and go ahead and pot them up uh into another container? Um, what would you do? I’m I’m laying off the water now. They got some more water today, but I let them get bone dry and I didn’t put any water on them. And then I put a little bit and all I’m putting is mist. I’m not I’m not pouring water. I’m just misting. And I’m having a problem with those. So, um I don’t know if I’ll try to grow seedlings of those in here again. I’ll probably continue to uh grow them outside direct. So, um, but everything else, uh, besides the Kaloo that I told you about, and I think I pointed it out to you. Yeah. Uh, is was giving me a problem. Now, these down here, they y’all, sorry. Um, these are doing good. These are doing really good. I’m not having a problem. They was planted later. Some of them, See how the difference? See how this one big and that’s small and then there’s another little small one over there. But I don’t know know if that’s going to do anything. But uh things come up at different times. Now I had just about given up on my sweet potatoes. Oh, and up here. I don’t know if you can see, but this is all tomatoes. And they are all doing very, very well. Very well. As a matter of fact, I’m going to take one of these down so you can see it. Hold on. Okay, I took these tomatoes down so you can get a look at them cuz they up on that top shelf and you wouldn’t be able to see them too good. But see how big they are? I don’t get my, you know, I don’t try to make my seedlings real big and pump them up and all that. I don’t try to do that because I don’t think it’s good for them. I don’t think they’d be strong. Um, so I give them, you know, I showed you that, uh, Dr. earth. I put that on here. A little pinch at each stem. I got three in here. I think there’s three in there. See? So, they’re doing good. And uh I add more soil to it. Like I told you, I added more soil. And uh let me try to pull this one out. You got to be careful when they in here like this so you don’t tear your tomato plant up. Instead of pulling on it, shake it. This is what I do. Shake it. Shake it a loose. Okay. See? And um yeah, they ready to go out to the garage, but uh we’ll wait and we almost there where they can go out there. We almost there. Okay. So, that’s how they’re doing that. I got a whole bunch of them in there. And I’m not going to take them all out, but as you can see, different kinds and they’re doing very well over here. And then some of these ones like this. Okay. So, I just want you to see them cuz they come from up here and you wouldn’t be able to see much. And there’s another one up there with some big ones. So, I got a lot of big ones. This here is the okra. I pulled it down so that you can see this. Okay. So, this is my okra plant. Here’s one here. This one here has two in it. And um doing Look at it. Nice and healthy. Doing really good. Here’s another okra here. This one here is It had more in there with it, but it was the boss. It took over. It’s in there by itself. Okay. So, it’s doing really good. And uh this is my first well actually my second time of growing this. Let me see which one is it. The Clemson spineless. Uh let me see. No, that’s the red burg. The Clemson is over here. Uh cuz I had tried this way back outside and my okra and I did transplants and it never did well for me. So I’m trying it again after a number of years. I have two in there. And as you can see, let me see if I replanted it. No, it was it was Let me try to get to the right spot. Oh, maybe that was the right spot. Hold on. I’m looking for the Yeah, see it didn’t get replanted. So, these are two, but you can see they came up at different times. See how that one’s smaller? That one’s bigger. And um this one here was the last of my seeds. And I like this okra was the last of my seeds. And I don’t know, it’s it was weak. So, we’ll see how that does. I could buy some more seeds, but I’m trying not to I’m trying to control myself cuz I love buying seeds and I’m trying to control myself. Um, yeah. So, this Clemson, this is another one of them. This one is in here by itself. It had more in here, but that’s one survived. I planted three originally in each one of these. I planted three. So, when you see one, that’s the only one. And I didn’t bother to plant it again because of the simple fact I got enough okra. I got enough because these pots here, they got two, some of them got three in it. Um, that’s plenty. Okay, so that’s how my okra is doing. So that’s a um an update of what I wanted to show you of how everything is doing. And if you have any questions, put it in the comment. I keep my supplies down here under this desk. Um, like that. And I put a little cake stand in there with some books underneath it to to bring that lamp up to the height where I wanted it. So, use the things that you already have in your home. And I had given up on the sweet potatoes. I’m going to get around here and show you this. But now, uh, it’s tight in here, so I have to be careful. Uh, cuz I’ve moved stuff out of their place, too. But this the sweet potato here, and it started growing cuz I was trying to be so careful with the watering because I didn’t want to put too much water on it and make it rot and it wasn’t doing anything. So, I said, “Oh, forget it. It ain’t gonna do nothing.” I put a whole bunch of water on it. The thing with the growing, so I wasn’t putting enough water. And uh here’s the other one. I’m trying to get it where you can see it. Okay. And it’s growing in there. And um I’m waiting on this little bitty one. I think it got something getting ready to come. But you know, I’m keeping them on a heat mat. I’m keeping them on a heat mat. Northern gardeners, new beginner gardeners. I’m keeping it on a heat mat because our homes are not that warm, some of us. So, they don’t necessarily have to have that in a warmer environment, but here they do. Okay. So, I’m trying to think about if there’s anything else that I want to talk to y’all about. [Music] Um, but so far I’m I’m pleased with my growing season. Very pleased. And this is the chair that I sit in and um do a lot of stuff with my plants. I sit right down in that chair and do things that I need to get done. These are some plies I keep over here. I got a garbage can that I keep and a little dust pan to sweep up in here. And then I have here my water and some rags or whatever. And I also keep a mop in here. So in case I have any type of accident or anything happen, there’s a mop right in here that I can go and do whatever I need to do to stop a disaster, you know, clean up a mess. Okay. And I’m trying to think it was something on my last video that I wanted to address, but I can’t remember what it was. But anyway, this the second one in the series of this the seedlings, and there will be more coming. Uh, I will keep you up to date so you can follow the progress. I told you what I do. I’m showing you if I had any problems. I’m telling you about how I’m dealing with the problem. And I showed you the fertilizer that I’m using. And I also showed you the lighting system. And I told you ideally I would have two of these shop lights on each one of these shelves, but I don’t want to spend the money for it. So what I do is move my stuff around. Okay? You can make do if you if you know how to do it and you’re willing to do the work. Okay? And also, you know, this stuff is pulling on your electricity, you know, until I get it out to the garage. See, when I get it out to the garage, that’s when I want to do the potting up of these tomatoes. up potting because I’m gonna mix soil up out there. I’m not gonna have to worry about no fungus nuts because it’s in the garage. I do not care. So, I can mix that stuff up and make my own. I’m going to make my own soil and then I’m going up pot these. So, I’m just waiting for the nights not to be so cold. So, they got to make it into then. Okay. And the same thing for my okra. A lot of my okra is in there by itself, but there’s some that’s got multiples in it. Okay. All right. And the other thing I wanted to tell you, if you are a person who’s doing your seedlings inside like me, uh, one thing I checked into, and I’mma pass this secret along, and only the people that stayed long enough in this video is going to know this. With your utility company, there are certain times with the utility companies when your utilities is cheaper. My utility is cheaper from 12 midnight to 7 in the morning. So I try to have the lights on in here. I do 12 hours. So I put it on from 9 to 9. You can do it any kind of way, but try to use most of your time on the cheap utility time so you don’t have such a large bill. That’s a tip, a very valuable tip. Okay. All right. So, the people that stayed here watching this video, comment below. Let me know if it’s anything you want me to put in the next one that you want me to discuss about, uh, you have any questions, okay? And I am so glad that you came and you tuned in and you following me. And new people, hey, you are such a blessing to me. My subscribers, you know, I love you guys. the people who just come and watch my channel. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Okay, I appreciate you. All right, so I shall see you guys next time. Okay, bye bye.

  1. Good Morning Cynthia.
I do the same ..as far as moving my plants around to accommodate my light sources when growing on my station. During the summer I plan to completely redo my indoor growing area.
I’m in zone 8b and I’m almost done putting things in the ground and grow bags. I do succession plant… but I’ll be doing that outside in my little plastic greenhouse. It’s a lot of work as you know. Like you, I have SEVERAL several plants.
    Your plants look great..
Can’t wait to see what you grow this year.
    Always enjoy your videos.

  2. As far as your question… yes mam- I would definitely up-pot or repot those plants with the fungus and get rid of that soil. Also, don’t forget to sterilize your tool you disturbed the soil with so that fungus doesn’t spread to your other plants.
Those okra plants look great. That’s what I’m struggling with…

  3. Coco coir is just so high maintenance compared to peat moss, I am determined to get coco coir to work because peat moss priced right is getting harder & harder to find, but if I could have 2 pallets of 3.8 CU FT peat moss bales delivered for a good price, I'd be all over it LOL

  4. One interesting thing I found with sowing seeds recently is if I sow seeds in old take out trays with the lids and put it on a heating mat, peppers & tomatoes do well. If I use the heating mat with my 72 cell seed trays and keep the humidity dome on them, they get too hot/humid and they dampen off. I was doing so well not using the heating mat on my 72 cell trays, but a few things didn't germinate, and I had the bad idea of putting them on the heating mat after 95 % of the cells had germination, and I killed about 80% of my seedlings. I was so disgusted with myself it has been weeks now and I just had zero motivation to resow my tomato seedlings that were hit so hard. I am at the point now where I think I will just have to break down and buy tomato starts for the 1st time ever LOL
