we’re at the Japanese gardens in K this was built over 40 years ago the garden was created to symbolize the bond between Australia and Japan that developed after World War II specifically after the Cara breakout one of the largest prison Escapes in history at the heart of the garden are two prominent rocks which inspired the designer Ken nakima to choose this land there’s Yosi the flat top rock which is believed to represent the stepping stone to heaven and shogi the pointed Rock which symbolizes life and [Music] prosperity this is a boncho bell which is uh typically rung 108 times for Spiritual cleansing normally found in Japanese shrines and temples the gardens cover around 12 1/2 acres this is the largest Japanese garden in the southern hemisphere designed to showcase the changing seasons the garden hosts the annual Secura Matsuri the Cherry Blossom Festival in September celebrating the arrival of spring with vibrant cherry blossoms this place is so [Music] peaceful the garden also features a traditional Ido style Cottage cascading waterfalls kield ponds and winding [Music] Pathways the Japanese Gardens have exactly 1,000 pine trees that have been planted over time by Japanese school students [Music] this is called a shishi oosi it’s typically used to scare off deer and B from Farmers land typically made from bamboo or concrete you can see how well it works [Music] the gardens feature a bonsai house and a cultural Museum showcasing traditional Japanese art history and Exhibits this really gives you an understanding of Japan’s Rich cultural [Music] heritage oh
