Another great video. And, inquiring minds want to know about the project 🧐
I absolutely prefer this daily content. Edited or not is great. ❤
Hey Jess, how about once a month do a 'day in the life' to show the transitions. Giving a realistic picture of farm life through out the year for those dreaming/planning the farm-life. ❤
It’s nice if you have the freedom to choose the life you want. In my case, it’s out of necessity and self preservation. I often find myself wondering where all the nice people are and where I belong.
About the news, with authoritarian regimes… when due process doesn’t matter and the constitution is an inconvenient thing, we all suffer. As the politicians run us into the ground and take away our rights and money, sit there and tell us we voted for this? It’s easy to feel like religious extremists are running the show, when it’s actually organized crime and corruption. So maybe when I don’t have constant threats over my head I might feel better. In the meantime, I can’t trust anyone. Especially DOD using signal chat for operational information is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. And no one gets held responsible. My alarms aren’t false. I have learned to listen. It’s not about if I can stay somewhere and be safe and happy. It’s about people that want to take everything from me and make me work for free while they take all the credit. It’s about their happiness. Donald needs golf course in the Middle East. And he’s going to tell you that your baby girl only deserves 2dolls , not 30 😠
I have been around for a long time not solid but I really enjoy your videos now , I think you have really matured and I really like the lady who talks to me now. Not sure which Sowerds is the luckiest you or Miah.
My heart aches for a garden and land one day. Hearing your process gives me hope for my future, but the state of the world makes me doubt at times if it will be possible to obtain.
Life definitely goes to fast and we need to enjoy every minute. That is why I started my little homestead channel, plus we are staring with the gateway animal Chickens. Love your channel!
Your daily content has been so
wonderful! My grandkids happened to be over yesterday (6m & 4f) and watched with me. At one point my grandson said, can we see the garden yet? And my granddaughter chimed in with hey Oma is her garden like yours?
As usual great message! Jess, you have such a calm & level-headed sense of self, it is infectious!!! ❤❤❤
⏰️⏰️⏰️
Thank-you
Not even about gardening – needed to hear the beef jerky bag of peace story today. Thank you 🙂
Coming home and watch your videos is like sitting on the porch with a cup of tea and talking to a good friend about my day. Thank you for being here for men without even knowing it.
Jess I did not know if I like the rural living until about I was in my 50's. I had farmers in our family back home in Hungary but I grew up in the big city concrete jungle. If I knew then my life would be so different. So I think it is important early age to figure out your dream and options and go for it. If I could turn back time.😮
Just an idea we homestead and homeschool and run a modified “year.” We finish up beginning of April so I can start focusing on gardening and animals, do math and a few things 2 days a week here and there over a long summer then go back to school in July when it’s super hot and homestead things have calmed down a tiny bit. It just helps us.
Your daily posts are an encouragement… wish we could talk back and forth 🙂
Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤
The story about urgency and peace was EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TODAY!!!
I sooo love the daily content Jess. I’ve missed you.
Thank You So Much Jess, for this right on Time and Deeply Meaningful Talk on Resilience/ Beef Jerky Bag O' Peace/Mindfulness of being "There" to "Here" on/in the Journey Of Life! 💓💓💓 I have been "following" Roots and Refuge since the beginning of Covid. Early 2020, everything was so scary and being shut down, and all I wanted to do during shut down was GARDEN!!! For me, it felt like the ONLY thing that would help me stay sane. Planting flowers and food, working in the soil and planting things and tending them, truly helped me stay Grounded and Centered, so what a Joy it was to put in Organic Gardening on a YouTube search, and having Roots and Refuge being top of the "list"!!! I fell in Love with the Sowards Family, and have been watching daily, for 5 years!!!! Every once in a while, Jess, you bring such a Beautiful Teaching, that it feels like, the Message is SPECIFICALLY for Me, right now, and so very Helpful and Healing! Thank You for All Your Heart-felt Blessings!!! Please Receive All of My Heart-felt Gratitude, Love, and Bright Blessings, to Roots and Refuge Farm, to include all Two-leggeds, and Four-leggeds, Family Members, and the SC Homestead where Y'all Abide!!!!!! 🙏✌💗🖖💪💯🐞🌱
I needed to hear this right now. I've barely had a day off since spring 2020, between work, garden, and preserving. It's time for me to find time for my peace(music). I'm getting burnt out and the season is just starting. I'm going to take a break next week for a few days. Thank you. I know that's not exactly what you meant, but it made me think. I've been busy 7 days a week for too long. When I'm at work, I'm thinking about everything I need to do when I get home, so I have Lee's when I'm off
Jess, God is using you to speak to me! I recently started therapy and was diagnosed with PTSD and I constantly get frustrated because changes aren't happening faster and the sense of urgency is deep. I'm picking up gardening for some personal therapy! Your channel has truly been a blessing to me and my healing journey.
It's funny but the idea of resilience and growth and personal responsibility has been on my mind all day. I talk about it with my clients often. My analogy is life is like swimming in the ocean. Different things can keep your head above water but it is still up to you to learn how to swim. The water is always changing, sometimes calm, sometimes lapping, and sometimes huge crashing breakers. Learning how to stay afloat, head above water, no matter what the water is doing, is resilience and thriving. Ignoring the water, escapism, and denial that your in the water, makes learning to swim well almost impossible.
Those babies are so over dramatic😂 love it!
Thank you so much for your story about the jerky ❤
Thank you, I have been watching your content for quite a few years now without commenting before, but this video honestly had me shedding a few tears. My husband was medically retired from the military with a broken back when he was 21. Its been 6 long, long years of watching him suffering through daily life and trying to find his peace with everything. I am hanging on to my homesteading dream with everything I have along with my own bag of beef jerky. And frankly its hard. Listening to you speak of and confirm my own experiences on resiliency touched me in a very real way, so again I thank you.
P.S. your daily content is very much appreciated as I continue to wait for my time to make a homestead
We homeschool from July-April so we can we can have extra time in the spring to be outside and I can work on the garden. Also since it's super hot in July, we can be inside doing schoolwork and take off time in the fall when it's nice.
You know, I was given a chance to steward an elderly neighbor's large backyard 5 years ago. It started out as a dreary mini-Dust Bowl infested with bindweed, as her idea of weed control was frequent tillage. Now, it's an oasis filled with green and growing things – strawberries, raspberries, wildflowers, a cover crop of winter ryegrass. Soon, I'll be tilling that under to plant out corn, beans, squash, sweet potatoes, and other veggies, of which I give her first pick.
I can't change much about the world, but I can give one dear lady her own patch of joy (me, too – I love to garden there!) and grow enough food to share with those in need in our neighborhood.
Thank you for the daily content! We watch it every morning first thing, with coffee of course 🙏🏻♥️
You said the daily content is s good for you…but known this…its GREAT for us your viewing family. I so look forward to seeing your next video. Thank you for sharing your life with us. ❤❤❤
Maybe one day could be "the sounds of the farm" ? To just go about your day & we're quietly keeping you company? ❤ loving the daily content too!
You got me, we just purchased our first pair of Nubian boy babies today, so excited!
❤
❤ well said.
This struck a chord with me for sure. This past fall I doubled the size of my raised bed garden and made a beautiful space. This spring I went in, leveled all my pavers and edged it in bricks, made a Mary garden next to it where I can meditate and pray. My plan was to add another raised bed to it dedicated to asparagus…but I was tired and putting in another raised bed was overkill so I took a step back and planted the asparagus crowns in an existing bed. I’m at peace with this decision and am looking forward to a fall project of transplanting blackberry bushes to another area, having two stumps ground up in order to set up my 6’x10’ greenhouse complete with a pretty garden area on the side of it. I’ve given myself grace when it comes to up keeping all my flower and veggie beds. When I really don’t feel like doing any maintenance I tell myself to just go out for 15 minutes. Once I’m out there inevitably that 15 minutes turns into 2-3 hours! My acre of land and home is really turning into my little slice of paradise one “15 minutes” At a time! I’ve only been vegetable gardening for 5 years- started at 61- but little by little it’s grown and I have grown in happiness, peace, charity, and physical strength.
Where can I get this mug???? Also loving the daily content!!!
For what it is worth, I know that it would be a huge pain, but I'd be up for monthly day in the life videos. You could do a playlist. 😉
“Tend what you can reach.” ❤️
This video prompted me to reflect on my own sources of resilience. It's amazing how small comforts can have a big impact.
Wow Jess on fire 🔥. Truth bomb, one after the next. Very well articulated, thank you
Thanks Jess, I needed that sermon!
I love Day in the life for “hot summer” “wet summer” “cold winter” “warmer winter” “dried off cows” “two in milk in summer” etc. let’s go!!
Oh, Jess. Thank you for this message; I needed it. I threw my bag of peace at someone today, and I wish I could take it back. 💔 Your message soothed me.
Thank you. I bless you. 💕
