Hi, I’ve been having this zz plant since 2018 I think, once I split it took smaller part of rhizome… it’s been repotted I think 1-2 years ago… it is on the window sill that has some light, nothing crazy… but now it’s been growing this massive long stems that sort of bend over, I put 2 stakes in, but it just doesn’t look appealing… it’s all crooked… any tips? I don’t water it often… when it gets dry I give it good amount of water. Sometimes gets a shower.

Honestly tied a string around the whole lot to keep them as upright as I want
And never put it in the shower… for a plant from East Africa (Zanzibar, Kenya, Tanzania) that should be watered about once a month and then only a smidgen. A shower to wash the leaves is way way to much water.
This may also be contributing to its ungainly growth. The leaves of Zamioculcas zamiifolia (ZZ) store and hold a huge amount of water, giving them to much water in the soil can contribute to them ‘flopping’ as they have to store it somewhere.
They only grow upwards when they receive enough light from above. Like in greenhouses etc. Otherwise, they will do all sorts of weird behaviors like this. Especially when they get overcrowded. The new growth keeps getting more elongated over time. Tie them up and accept it the way it is.
