  1. Other than that freak winter in 2022/2023 in East TN where we lost alot of plants…it appears this winter was another year of loss or heavy damage to plants. Schip Laurels got hit hard, crape myrtles and even some very hardy roses are just not doing well in our neighborhood

  2. Soulmates don't always come in human form. Just so you know, watching these videos without her hurts our hearts- but probably not as much as yours does making them. Thank you for sharing your sweet girl with us. And for still showing up. But please take the time that you need to when you need to. We'll be here when you get back❤

  3. Good morning Jim and Stephanie 😊 I love all the new colors and evergreens you are adding this year. Thank you for sharing. 💜 Jen Z9b Tx Gulf Coast

  4. Most of what we added this year is clown college, along with the Bandana 'Lemon Zest' Lantana, which goes from buttery yellow to soft yellow to white. We carried over the 'Hot Blooded' Lantana, which is a vibrant mix of orange and red (and also sterile). We also carried over several 'Mystic Spires Blue' Salvia, along with a couple of 'Pugster Blue' Buddleia. The only "dull' flowering plants we have are the Abelia, but their leaves provide a bright pop of color (Miss Lemon in full sun, Kaleidoscope in part sun).

  5. The pale yellow Baptisia I rescued from a roadside was an absolute beast to dig out. Our north Georgia dirt road is full of the native white, only the one yellow. I didn't want it destroyed when the neighbors put in another driveway. There's a reason they're so tough, roots for days!

  6. I’m using a lot of coleus this year to see how it does with deer, different sun conditions, and container vs landscape. I think they are beautiful.

  7. 3 summers in a row where I have to get surgery, so the garden will have to wait. Tore a tendon in my leg, stepping in a hole where I had just removed a shrub. I may just hire a professional landscaper as it is frustrating that my dream garden is taking so long to create. I love all the colors, Jim and Steph.

  8. I never get tired of seeing your garden, and I learn something from every video the two of you create. Thank you for the inspiring and educational content, especially at this time when you're hearts are heavy.

  9. Good tips about cutting matted roots off and to be aware to temperature drops during full moon and clear skies! I'll be looking for Skyscraper Salvia this year!

  10. A random question that I cannot seem to find the answer to on the internet: What male holly can I buy to pollinate my "Miss Pryss" holly tree that I just bought? And where are they sold? I really want berries in winter. Are there enough hollies out in the wild woods of SC (I live in the country close to woods) to pollinate my tree without buying one for that purpose?

  11. Thanks for the tip on Osmanthus Part Lights. Osmanthus Goshiki has been completely hardy in my northern CT zone 6a garden. Perhaps Party Lights will be as well. Now to find one…

  12. It's good to see you both (we know you are behind the camera, Stephany♥) and see you doing something you love. Thinking of you both.

  13. Jim you are a talented plantsman but I have to say what caught my eye when you were in your house was your love for dogs. I have learned so much from you despite me living in a zone 6a now. I thought I had been watching all your videos but when did I miss you marrying Steph? I noticed you wearing a ring the last month……I know your channel is about plants but many of us continue to follow your life like your recent loss of Holly. Thanks for all you do for horticulture.

  14. Will Japanese maple put out lots of roots like your red maple? Love hearing that train in the distance.

  15. Had an epiphany of sorts while watching this video. I've concentrated my gardening efforts in my back yard over the last few years, adding shrubs and small trees, perennials and bulbs. Your videos have educated and inspired me greatly. But I could never decide what to do with the front yard, beyond some potted groupings. Now I realize – omg, another huge project! – that I could get rid of the poor excuse for a lawn and create beds and paths, similar to what you've done in your front yard. Wow! Got to get some wood chips. . .

  16. So glad to see that you got “party light”. I have two of these in the ground now two years, and I love them. That pink was what sold be on them

  17. Hi Jim. Agreed, evergreens are the backbone to a garden. Without them it’s just empty. I planted a Duetzia Chardonnay pearl early Spring & I’m very excited to see it come alive. It has beautiful bright chartreuse color with pearl like white flowers budding. Not sure why more ppl aren’t growing this compact shrub. ❤

  18. A tale of two zones: I was thrilled this morning to see all 40s for overnight lows this week in 6a. 😂

  19. I'm still so jealous of your Rosalinda. I can't find it online or in stock anywhere!
Also, I send my sincere condolences about Holly. I lost my Angus buddy (a heeler mix who was my garden biddy), Sept 2023 and I still miss him so much. I know that hurt. Big hugs to you both.

  20. One of our abelia original to the house was multiple plants planted together. I always thought its shape was odd and finally could distinguish the two in year 3. Just cut out the smaller one and it looks so much better. Hope your caryopteris is successful too!
