I have a large prickly pear cactus that's been pretty healthy. This year, I noticed these bugs that are congregating on it. There's lots of little ones running all over it and then these (what I assume are the adults) appear to be eating the paddles. There's also several spots where the insides of the paddles seem to be leaking out.
I think the bugs are cactus bugs (chelinidea vittiger) but most of the advice online is to just to wash them off. Is there a more effective way? Or do I even need to worry about them?

These look to be leaf footed bugs. I’ve had success making a mixture of isopropyl alcohol, dishsoap and water, and spraying the bugs with that mixture. It takes some persistence but it helps
