Underneath the mulch are cardboards, and underneath the cardboards are fabric then soil. Debating if we should do half barrel wine planters to grow fruits and perhaps plant some natives around it? Or just the wine barrel planters? So many possibilities….

Well if you want to grow anything, you messed up by adding fabric.

Hate to say it but the fabric is gonna screw you. Plants need to be planted in soil. So now your only choice is planters. For future reference, weed fabric is terrible because it degrades and eventually doesn’t do its job, is a pain to pull up once degraded, and if you’re using cardboard, it’s redundant.

Containers with perennials. You can add soil on top of all that you already put down, then plant some native perennials (not from seed), then mulch. The perennials will grow back each year and you can just add more mulch each year and spot weed as needed.
