So I've been trying to propogate this philodendron for weeks now in water. This one little root is trying so hard. It's grown very slowly and there's a new leaf emerging. However, I just noticed it's got what looks like algae on it. What is it and how do I deal with it? Should I just try potting it to avoid this again?

Its sat in a window with indirect light 90% of the time. For two days I attempted to put it in a darker area to encourage the root, but chickened out since it's a pink princess.

Maybe should add, the stem was an inch longer than this. I thought it might be holding the root back, so I cut it right before the photo.

  2. looks more like algae than rot, rot would make the root turn translucent. not something to worry abt but if you don’t want to see any you could put it in an opaque cup. i don’t recommend constantly changing the water since you’d lose any rooting hormones the plant secretes
