Am I the only person who NEVER follows the instructions on the packet? And although growing wildflowers is easy, there are just a few rules you really do have to follow – this one being the most important.

Autumn (or fall) is a good time for sowing wildflower seed and in spite of my mistakes I have really loved my wildflower beds.

here I have planted three different seed mixes in the three different borders and I can see that I’ve made a couple of mistakes all of the companies have good instructions on how to sew the seed they tell you how much seed you need to sew per square meter but I completely ignored that and a whole packet of seeds went over each of my borders what that means is that you get too many plants germinating and the vigorous plants out compete the plants that are less vigorous so you may actually miss out on a whole category of plants and if it’s a wildflower seed collection which is due to flower over different times over a number of months you may actually miss out on some of your flowering

  1. what is the purple one in front of you and showing up at the start of the video? (not the cornflower or borage)

  2. This is exactly why I buy separate seed and create waves. Here in Canada, these mixes are June wow, and weedy July, August and some September.

    Delightful video.

  3. Planting "mixes" is a lovely way to introduce invasives & other problematic plants into the area, especially if you have no idea what you're doing.
Mixes are compost or birdseed as far as I'm concerned. Not worth the trouble (of eliminating your own choices).

  4. Maybe so, but your garden still looks absolutely beautiful and I wish I could grow that kind of a garden myself. I love the different colors.❤

  5. Pink and burgundy corn flowers and Cosmea are wild flowers??? First mistake was to get a seedmix out of an random shop i would say

  6. Lovely tips! As someone who enjoys both gardening and fostering a natural habitat for pollinators, I find these simple suggestions incredibly valuable. Will definitely be applying them in my own small garden. Thanks for sharing this essential knowledge! 🌼🐝
