Had some flooding when the irrigation water was turned on, and this connector wasn’t secure. What is the male connector called? The pipe seems to barely touch the male side and can’t be secured, like the grey piece has broken off and was longer before. Location is western US, if relevant.

It probably was barbed on the missing part.

Reducer or swage. Looks like a 3/4” to 1/2” reducer or a 1” to 1/2”. Make sure to measure it before ordering a new one or or bring the broken one when getting it at Home Depot.

  3. That’s a barbed fitting, but the issue is that someone used a worm gear hose clamp, which isn’t really meant for in-ground irrigation. They can loosen up over time with temperature changes or ground movement. What you want instead is a crimp clamp (or pinch clamp), which is actually visible just above the broken barbed fitting in your photo. Those are made for poly irrigation tubing and hold way more securely underground.

From the looks of it, the fitting either popped off or broke. Make sure you’re using the right size barbed fitting and clamp it properly with a crimping tool. That setup will last way longer and save you some headaches down the line.

The green line pipe is 1/2″ Rain Bird SPX-FLEX Swing Pipe. The other looks like 3/4″ poly pipe. You need at 3/4″ poly to 1/2″ swing pipe fitting.

1” poly to 3/8” swing pipe reducer fitting.

A hose clamp isn’t correct application for this irrigation system its too wide and also was probably over tightened and damaged the barb fitting hence the broken fixture. Repair the broken barb and next time use a pinch clamp.
