If you think I’m delusional, don’t even tell me cuz I really need this to work so the roaches and weeds stop climbing up our house. We’re starting by digging a big wide hole. Whatever’s touching our house needs to go. I swear we have magic soil cuz the weeds can’t stay away. They’re like little stalkers. So, we’re installing some landscape fabric to hopefully prevent them from growing back. And if it doesn’t help, I’m going to be sad because we could have gotten the cheapest stuff, but instead we got the premium fabric. And I know that it looks like my crack, but I swear it’s just my back and a harsh shadows. Um, so anyways, I’ve seen some mixed reviews and people say I shouldn’t do this and that cardboard and mulch are a better combo. But you know who loves both of those things, so I’m not risking it for the biscuit. Instead, we’re dumping rocks everywhere. And these are not the pretty ones that cost more than my wedding ring, which I recently lost, by the way. Um, these are just for drainage. I know it’s not the final product, but seeing this first layer makes all the work in this Florida heat worth it. After almost 3 years of trying to rebuild our house, it’s so close to looking beautiful. And now we need to figure out how to lay these bricks.

  1. I've had two exterminators tell me mulch is the number one landscape thing that attracts roaches so I agree with y'all – Good luck đŸ€žđŸŒ

  2. Next time I would get the tarp like materi. .It's almost like plastic tarp it works way better than that type. I know from experience. And there.
Are times where weeds will grow on top of the fabric from wind , birds , etc

  3. If you have.
Stones and you don't want to like pick the weeds and try Spraying glue on your Stone so they don't move around you can just.
    Use a leaf blower.

  4. I got my ring stolen 😭😭😭 it’s so sad, hopefully you find yours 💕

  5. Yes you should avoid putting “termite food” (mulch) that close to the house đŸ‘đŸœ

  6. Yeah, no cardboard! If there is any in your house or around it, get rid of it. Those buggers are attracted to them like crazy. The rocks are nice and I understand your preference to them over mulch/bark/pine needles. They can however create mold and algae. You'll need to clean them 1 to 2 times a year atleast. Also I'd put planters on top of them with the plants you want instead of plants in the beds the rocks can cause issues with plants. Plus it's easier to switch plants in pots and move them as you wish. 😊 looking great!

  7. For good measure, put bay leaves everywhere. plant some if you have to.
I haven’t seen a bug since I put bay leaves underneath all of my rugs, over a year ago.

  8. You need some type of screen for your crawl space vents to keep the rats, snakes, possums, and any other critters from coming in there.

  9. đŸ‘đŸŒ If you consider using rock glue or sealant, it will save you a lot of clean up/ mower blade damage later on
đŸ‘đŸŒ Check it out! Good luck!

  10. I bought my house with rocks thinking ,”yeah!, no yard work!”.
    Boy, was I wrong!!
The rocks are full of roaches and scorpions! The black fabric breaks down after a couple years and you get weeds! (And I live in the desert where it’s 120F in the shade, but weeds still grow!)
Diatomaceous Earth keeps the bugs away from the house and I set out peanut butter laced with Borax in the rock. I have cats and there are sad, stray cats that I feed (far from my house), so I only use harsh chemicals up high for spiders and wasps!
    Good luck!

  11. and no one thought to consider what those rocks are going to do in a hurricane or tornado?

  12. Great job. You will love this in the long run. When those peaty weeds start to pop just use a torch. Yes fire does the trick

  13. Should’ve laid down a tarp or something under that mountain of rocks because now it’s gonna be a pain in the ass to get it out the grass

  14. st augustine grass helped keep weeds away from my house i just had to be wary of crabgrass, but everything else didnt survive. it even kills off those turns and sandburs

  15. Your attitude is fantastic, every time I have a bad day, I always hope I will see one of your clips. Your smile and your attitude are beautifully priceless. Your doing a fantastic job inside and outside. So sorry about your wedding ring 🕊

  16. Idk if this is an option for st. Pete, but I just learned about bat boxes, but of course there's also bird boxes, basically making homes in your yard for things that eat those bugs can help a lot! And help the planet

  17. I tried cardboard and mulch last year. Needless to say the cardboard broke down and the plants grew through the mulch. I Also tried fabric as well and I think I had flowers literally grow through and under the material lmao.

  18. As someone who has lost her wedding ring three times across two different continents, it’ll probably turn up somewhere totally random.

  19. The thing about ag fabric is that weeds will inevitably land on the top and start to grow through. Then, you’ll be stuck with plastic in the ground that shreds when you try to remove it.

The benefit of mulch and cardboard is that they can be reapplied annually or biannually to continually suppress weeds (without the use of herbicides).

  20. In my experience, fabric doesn’t work in Florida, they grow through. I’ve only had success with the plastic.

  21. Now dust around the whole perimeter with diatomaceous earth. You can look up how it works, safe for mammals and such, but it shreds and desiccates bugs.

  22. Sis the roaches here in Florida fly. I hate those things! Pour BORAX around the perimeter of your home for the nasty ones that crawl. đŸȘłâŒ

  23. Cockroaches, in my experience, do love cardboard. I’ve used landscape fabric successfully. It’s not perfect, but nothing is. Hope it all works well for you.
