As we all know the soil must be well drained, i went to nursery and bought this lil plump boy. I hate when the pot is so full that you cannot see any soil, after a week i decide to repot into temporary nursery pot, surprise , soil is rich black, still damp after a week, very dense and have absolutly no root in the second half ot the pot… what is your opinion? Is it a trick for a fast start-up to use à super rich soil ? Could it work with extra care ?

  1. Why? Because it’s cost effective for the seller.

Can it work? …. yes, if you amend the dense stuff with 50% non organic grit.

Pro tip: use a wooden skewer or soft toothbrush to gently remove all that black root-killing soil from the root ball. Get comfortable. It takes a while. Afterwards, allow the root ball to dry out “naked” to ensure any damage has calloused over, for a day or so.

Repot into gritty mix. Wait to water until you observe signs of thirst.
