I wanted a nature pond for a while. But I've got a small garden and I'm cheap and lazy and didn't want to use a plastic pond liner, so didn't do anything for a few years. A friend had an enamel bath dumped in his garden from previous home owners, so I appropriated it to see if I could make it work. I buried it Sept 2024. Old hexagonal slab and bricks to create a shallow shelf. £4 bag of gravel. Got some plant cuttings for free. Added some frog spawn a month or so ago. We're now 7 months on and there's tadpoles, hoverflies, a damselfly larva (I think) and I keep hearing a splash so there's possibly an adult frog in there.
A very welcome suprise is the number of birds using it to drink and bath – magpies and wood pigeons especially.
I'm not sure how well it will stand up over the years. There's a bit of algae at the mo, so it might need more shade, though it might be healthy. Pretty happy with the current progress. Looking forward to seeing what other wildlife it attracts.

Nice 👍
Looks good!
Looks amazing. I would recommend an air stone to keep it all alive and thriving for years to come, it will oxygenate the pond so you may even get fish. You can get solar ones online for cheap so there’s no running costs.
Looks amazing. The sunlight will be in the tadpoles favour, it helps the spawn develop better and the algae the tadpoles will eat! I second getting a solar powered pump and/or air stone, I have one pump and one airstone in my little pond and it’s all it needs honestly. Sometimes a top up when the weather is hot.
