@THERUSTEDGARDEN
I'm very new to gardening and there's so much i have to learn! Thank you for sharing this useful informationššš
Excellent information ,my onions were in the sun all day but seemed to revive in the late afternoon shade.
From 2 inches of snow to opening week of blackfly season in the last 2 and a half weeks up in NW CT. Water soluble npk and a week of warmer night and day time temps has really turned things around.
I have a dry part shade area that was ornamental but deer eat everything, so Iām going to try growing some herbs there this year.
Great video. I have an area thats part shade, but because it gets midday sun, that helps so much. I can grow cherry tomatoes too in part shade. But not biggger
I started listening to your videos 6 or 7 years ago. Before you moved. Iād been playing at trying to grow veggies for a few years. You are a wealth of information! Fast forward to today, I have a fenced in garden with 12 raised beds and can or freeze what I grow in addition to fresh eating. There is nothing like eating fresh veggies from the garden. I sincerely thank you for all your time and efforts in teaching us how to grow a garden.
Do you do any type of sun shade?
Hi Gary,
My cucumbers are putting out tendrils and beginning to climb. The snow peas are flowering. I finished planting sweet potato slips and Sugar Baby Watermelon. This weekend I'll sow seed stars for Golden Zucchini, and Italian Striped Zucchini. I might plant Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe too. Some of my broccoli is bolting, some isn't, and some are just starting to form heads. I'm still waiting on the cauliflower to start forming heads. The cabbage is coming along slowly, and just starting to form heads. The peppers, herbs, strawberries, lettuce, carrots, and parsnip[s are all doing great. The Jolene Tomatoes are exploding with flowers and fruit. It is looking like another bumper crop this year.
A vole got two of my dill plants. I put some special treats in its hole to show my thanks (Vole-X). In a few days, I'll close the hole. I gave up on indeterminant tomatoes last year. They can't take the summer heat and humidity in Alabama. Determinant tomatoes, however, do very well. Especially if you can get an early start. It is still April, and I already have several golf ball size tomatoesāsome bigger.
Gary to you ever tie the leaves up around your broccoli or cauliflower? Thanks
Thank You Gary! We had some trees cleared for a garden 10+ years ago. SW Michigan, 6A. The remaining trees filled in, so we have about this amount of sun left in our garden, thankfully in the midday range.
I purchased a small 2 acre jungle and cleared out a small patch in the middle. I get 4-5 depending on the time of year. Summer being less because of the tree canopy. My produce does ok here in Alabama 7b, but I'm wondering if being on a mountain has anything to do with the extra hardiness despite having less sun? I will continue to experiment and let you know
I had lettuce bolt and seed and the seeds floated outside of our fence with zero sunlight and those lettuces did amazing!
Would 50 percent shade cloth help? I have south facing yard with sun almost all day.
Yea!! Mushrooms šāš«
Thanks for this great info!
