  1. You can propagate tomato from cuttings in water or dirt. If a tomato plant breaks off just stick it in the dirt and it will grow.

  2. Can you set your chickens loose in the garden beds for a few days to feast on rolly pollies, or will they just do even more damage?

  3. I had not seen the lavender green stocks yet. Now I am officially going to buy one they were tempting when they released pink, but in lavender, they are irresistible

  4. Hey Jess, thankyou so much for the advise on rolypolies! woodlice over here in the UK. I never realised the extent of the woodlice in our polytunnel until this year. So i tried the potato and it has worked wonders. I look under each slice every day, and remover all the woodlice and babies (they are prolific breeders!) and we are slowly getting things under control. I will be interested to see if the orange slice work too! x

  5. Roly-polies ate most of my seedlings this year and are now eating my strawberries. They are very important in the ecosystem and great at getting rid of the dead stuff, but will happily eat soft living things, too.

  6. I used wooden bbq or marshmallows skewers in my Greenstalk pockets to support my taller plants. I just tie or clip my plant to the skewers. Then I repurpose the skewers to the next growing season. 😊

  7. Jess, try wrapping strips of paper in a ring around the base of the tomatoes when you plant them….works great

  8. My rolly pollies love beans, melons, cucumbers, and marigolds especially. They're little monsters until the seedlings get bigger. It's so sad! I'm surprised that they're leaving some zinnia and sunflower seedlings alone for me this year.

  9. Wikipedia even talks about how Rollie pollies or pull bugs will eat seedlings especially in areas prone to wet conditions and even eating wood supports in houses. They are stated to be a known agricultural pest in the US, Southern Australia, and Argentina destroying many crops.

  10. I love you, jess, you always make me smile. I wish we could be garden neighbors, for I think we would truly be kindred spirits

  11. Are you sure it’s Rolly Pollies and not cut worms? Try putting a collar made of foil around them. Your roses and irises are so beautiful.

  12. Yep, my Rolly polly eat my HOSTA! I will try your potatoes and oranges sliced up and let you know how it works out for me. Thank you! I hope the squirrels don't think that the slices are for them to eat!!!!

  13. Your garden looks lovely as usual Miss Jessica! I chuckled pretty hard at your face when you sunk outta sight! lol. I don't know nothing about rolly polly's,..but they appear to be only in the mulch. So, I can't help but wonder if on your transplants if putting a small piece of a toilet paper roll cardboard or some such thing around them to act like a tree guard would work. You could pull the mulch back slightly, feed the plant through and then push into the ground slightly – It will not girdle them and the cardboard will rot. It might draw them in too with the rotting. Dunno. But a short piece of 1 1/2 inch (or so) black plastic pipe would work too with allowing you to reuse year after year. Same principle though. Would work for the seeded stuff too but would be a lot. I would think it would save the transplants at least. Just a thought for ya.

  14. Not sure how you could get some, but Wood louse spiders would eat them and bring back balance. Unfortunately, feeding them, they are just going to continue to overpopulate your raised beds.
    Just a thought 😊

  15. I was out planting squash, bush cucumbers, jalapeños peppers, sweet peppers, and Chinese 🍆. I was worn out. I took a shower and fell asleep. Luckily, I have canned red beans and sausage. I'll make rice. I wish we would get a good rain here in NC. Be careful Jess!!

  16. Check for cutworms around those tomatoes. It looked suspiciously like their damage and the rollypolly's coming in for the final kill.

  17. I found this out by accident, damp egg cartons collect pill bugs like nobody's business. I found this out because i had left an egg carton in the garden after using them to plant my tomatoes.
