Someone at my mums work decided her plants needed a trim, and claimed "it's good for them, I know what I'm doing".
Needles to say my mum is devastated, she's taking them home to recover. Any helpful tips for a speedy recovery would be appreciated.

I wouldn’t worry about them. I just cut one of mine to an even shorter length 2 weeks ago and they are already sprouting tons of new growth.
I’d be sent to HR for my reaction…
I don’t have a lot of experience with spider plants. Would a bit of fertilizer be helpful for recovery?
Were they French, perhaps?
I swear some people treat every plant like it’s a hedge or lawn. That or they think every plant can branch when cut.
only time will heal these guys, they’ll probably look so silly as fresh leaves come out but the cut leaves won’t grow back unfortunately

But that’s also another reason I won’t take special or precious plants to work because we have no idea what other co-workers or housekeeping is doing to the plants when we’re not there at the desk
This just feels like ill intent 🙁 If the someone *cared* enough they would know this wasn’t necessary at all.
If the tips were all dried out and dead it would be good for them. Unless we see it before picture we can’t really judge.

this sucks and is really strange behavior but they’ll be fine
In the long run, the plants will just send that energy to grow more roots until new leaves come out. It will be healthier under the soil, but unnecessary and unfortunately similar to a bowl haircut of embarrassment.
I saw a stupid facebook video that recommended exactly this. It said that the spider plant would grow back even better an lush, and that it’s a plant hack. I would bet money that the person in the office saw that exact video.
I would write up a invoice for the price of two new ones.
