
Hi, please be kind I’m a newbie! I built this planter right off my kitchen to have herbs and stuff right at my fingertips, but didn’t really think through a couple things.
1.) Proper drainage so there’s not standing water underneath, causing rot to the deck. My husband thinks he has a solution, but I’d love to hear if anyone else has suggestions.
2.) What to fill the bottom with so I’m not spending an absolute fortune on potting soil. Is this a good candidate for the Hügelkultur method with logs and sticks, cardboard, etc? Since this is for edibles, I don’t necessarily want to put pool noodles and plastic waste in the bottom to fill space.
