I recently bought this strawberry plant as is and from my (albeit light) research it suggests that you prune the runners after the plant has its summer bloom. The runners are quite long and you can't see from the picture but it's a bit crowded underneath too with some small slightly yellow leavye that are being shaded out. Is it a bad idea to prune now anyways to take care of these issues? Should I wait? Thanks in advance!

You can always prune the runners and any dead leaves

  2. If your goal is to get lots of strawberries I would prune the runners. I am new to strawberries and am not an expert but I’ve been doing a lot of research and from what I understand you want to prune runners and flowers for the first couple weeks to allow healthy roots and leaves to grow (might not be necessary when starting with an established plant like this). The runners will take energy away from the main plant development.

I believe the plants also like a decent amount of room for their roots in order to produce lots of fruit. It looks like your pot is crowded so I might consider separating all the plants into separate containers.
