Hey guys! So I have 3 Areca palms and I’ve only now noticed one of them is growing mushrooms!
(Pic attached)
I have two beautiful cats and I’m so worried if this is dangerous.
Any advice how to combat these shrooms? Also can you help identify what they are?
Thanks so much!

P.s – We have hidden the plant away from the cats (in the shower) to be safe
I either pull the mushrooms from my plant or let them die off and go back into the soil. I notice when the soil is moist/dampfor too long and the conditions are just perfect for them to grow. I let the soil dry out a bit and the mushrooms will dry up. My cat is trained to stay away from my plants so idk if it would be a problem for them.
[Thank you for the cat tax. Your furbabies are adorable. 🐱🐱]
Ah, good ol’ *Leucocoprinus birnbaumii* rising questions day after day.
It’s maybe most common fungus in house plant soils all around the world. It’s saprothrope, meaning it “feeds” on decaying organic matter in substrate. To plant itself it’s harmless, even beneficial. In my understanding it’s more or less toxic but i wouldn’t worry about it as i can’t imagine cats (or dogs) eating it. Also, if my memory serves me correct, large amounts of it need to be ingested to get lethal results.
