  1. They look great for CO! I guess I get lucky with a 7B area. I put my strawberries in their raised bed, and I didn't even cover them over the winter. I forgot to water them, and I neglected them completely. They look great. Haha. But now I have to make sure they're covered and they don't fry through the heat. The summers are the hard part.

  2. I love my greenstalks. Thank you for your informative videos. I live in 6b and have learned to much from you. I even bought a Planta greenhouse.

  3. i picked up a used green stalk at a garage sale in January, it is now sitting on my patio filled and waiting for some warmer weather before i plant strawberry in it. I live in south central Montana and each winter will see -20f and have never been successful in overwintering strawberry's. i dont have a green house so i hope to use the green stalk and move it inside my workshop during the winter to attempt to keep the plants alive.

  4. Hi Scott šŸ‘‹
Fab Greenstalk strawberry growing video. I've not invested in a greenstalk yet, but after seeing your success and Danny's success, I'm very tempted. They're a great space saver as well as helping with pest control.

    Enjoy your strawberries šŸ“ šŸ˜‹

    Enjoy the Easter holidays ā¤

  5. Thanks for the insight! I've been wanting to try strawberries in a tower planter in my greenhouse. I have the Planta Sungrow 26 and we love it. We heat it, though, and keep it above 45ĀŗF at night in the winter in Ohio, Zone 6b.

  6. It’s not an issue for me in Scotland to leave my strawberries in the greenstalk over winter but a strawberry in April is just a day dream for me. So yea, I can still find things to be jealous of in your garden šŸ˜‚

  7. Alberta has a similar climate to Colorado. Things can change from one day to the next. It's awesome to be able to extend the growing period for strawberries. Strawberries are a very healthy and tasty fruit. Cheers, Scott!

  8. All my strawberries died in my green stalk around the second year over winter, 6a. The one chive plant survived though. I probably needed to shelter them more and didn't water them enough.

  9. We love all of you're videos and thank you… Somehow, here in oregon 8a, I'm able to leave my strawberries outside all year round. 80-90 plants going strong.

  10. I just received my new Greenstalk and my bare root strawberries will be shipping this week, so your timing of this video is perfect! I had many questions, most of which you answered. Since Im in northern New England zone 4B, I’m planning on overwintering them against an interior wall of our garage, covered of course. Wish me luck.šŸ¤žšŸ» And thank you! I’ve learned so much from your channel.

  11. I was hoping to overwinter strawberries in my greenstalk, but since I'm in 5b, I guess I'll be replanting each year.

  12. I would love to try this in my greenhouse for early crops. In N Germany, we get down to -5C definitely, -10-20C possibly… I've a last frost date about end of April (but have had frost as late as 2nd June), first hard frosts tend to come mid October. I dunno what equivalent zone that is for perennials, maybe 6-7?

My strawberries seem to survive the winter buried under loads of leaves. We're also dry enough in the spring that even in the worst slug year like last year, they aren't much affected.

I did lose half of them to 10 days sub-zero C temps end of April last year when they were in full bloom! (Also almost all my orchard fruits). Thankfully it looks ok this year! Strawbs not yet in bloom.

  13. After loosing strawberries two winters, and trying different methods if over wintering. This last winter i took the greenstalk apart set them in a raised bed and covered them really well with leaves. I felt like our winter was pretty mild this year but with leaves and snow cover i only lost 2 plants. We've had more wind and cold in March and April! I'll use this method again next winter. We're in Zone 5

  14. I have only tried them a couple of times, but I wouldn't have expected strawberries to be so vulnerable to cold (zone 7 here). My experience has been that they're either burned up in summer heat and drought or overwhelmed by weeds. Anything in a container is going to be more vulnerable to severe conditions, of course.

  15. I rolled my Greenstalk with strawberries into our garage (kept at 46 degrees) for winter. I didn't do a thing to them, until I started seeing growth late in February. Most of the plants look just fine. I have been rolling it out now during the day, and growth is progressing.

  16. Scott I so appreciate your videos and especially the ones about growing in a greenhouse. My greenhouse is 10×15 with 4 vents and 1 door (unheated altho I do have a heater available). I just put in a Greenstalk tower with some bareroot strawberries and can't wait to see how they do. Please continue to do greenhouse related videos as that is my main area of growing. I live in Pine CO at 8500ft (5b zone) and also just put in a 4×8 covered strawberry raised bed outside the greenhouse with bareroot plants (now under a blanket and 4" of snow.

  17. Great strawberry video Gardener Scott!
In the process of making a strawberry tower from 3 milk crates. Plan on bringing them into my mid 50F basement to overwinter. Hoping it gives a head start for fresh berries next year, Stay Well !!!!

  18. I only own Greenstalk with a few strawberry plants and an English Thyme in it. I've been wanting to turn it into a strawberry planter and ordered 25 additional bare root strawberry plants after watching this video.

  19. Scott, what variety of strawberry did you plant? I’m also in Colorado and just bought everbearing Ft Laramie for my new Greenstalk.
