I’m new to houseplants, and I just bought this white bird of paradise. This is straight out of the pot…I put it outside on the patio yesterday and it accidentally got rained on while I was asleep. 😭 I was going to wait before repotting, but it’s so wet, I’m afraid for its life. The leaves have curled in a bit and one is drooping.

Upon removing it from the nursery pot it came in, this is what the roots look like….is this root rot? Should I let it dry out on its own or repot immediately? Thank you for the help!

Stating bc of rules:

•I haven’t watered it at all, it just got rained on

•In the one day I’ve had it, it got about 8 hours of light

Naw. I would pop it back in its pot and water it very well. Did you buy it from an indoor or outdoor position. Moving a plant almost always shocks it a bit. Changes in temperature and wind etc matter hugely. Where will it live?

FYI for the future, roots come in all sorts of colors from off-white all the way to dark orange.

The thumbnail looks like a fish for some reason and I was so confused lol

Roots look healthy but becoming root bound. I was reading this may encourage indoor blooms but not great for the long term health of the plant. I’d repot it into a bigger pot with well draining soil.

PS: Do you have pets or kids around? Only because you said you’re new to house plants. A lot are toxic to pets and kids, including bird of paradise
