How do we best get rid of the foxtails without killing the clover that is incredibly happy and taking over what used to be grass & crabgerass?
I dont mind using a weed killer, but I am in love with all the white clover and don't want to risk hurting it.
Any advice welcome! Our backyard is similar, but the clover is burr clover so that needs to go because we have a dog.
I am in zone 9b.

There are herbicides that target monocotyledons like grasses and spare dicotyledons like clover and other wildflowers.

Or you could mow high to remove their flowers. It won’t get rid of perennial grasses, but curb their spread.

It’s too late to poison the grass. Many seeds have dispersed and the ones still on the plants are probably viable. Best would be to put down pre emergent next year right when fall rains arrive but that would mean no new clover plants too.

Go out and pull them. Gather all the stems twist and pull. These are very easy to remove.

Any grass with long awns and sharp tips are bad news for dogs, this one isn’t foxtail and doesn’t look like rip gut brome either but good to get it out of there.
