In this week’s video we are continuing my New Garden Design Series at my very good friend Tina’s small garden in Langdon Hills, Essex, England.
Their garden had been rather neglected for the whole of 2024 whilst they’ve had some internal building work done, including the addition of a new conservatory.
They’ve asked me to help them with a complete garden makeover and today you can see Days 8 & 9 of our progress.
I’ve measured the plot, drawn up a scale plan and produced the design which they are both happy with. Last week we created a rock garden on the greenhouse side of the garden and today we lay the stepping stones and plant a whole host of gorgeous plants:
Standard Rose ‘Absolutely Fabulous’
Callistemon (Bottle Brush Tree)
Standard Photinia ‘Red Robin’
Lemon Cypress Trees
Laurus Nobilis (Bay Tree)
Picea Pungens ‘Superblue Seedling’
Prunus (Flowering Cherry) ‘Snow Showers’
Campanula
Nepeta
Lamium
Saxifrage
Gentia
Oenothera
Aubretia
Eryssimum
Brunnera
Vinca Minor
Heucheras
I hope you enjoy this garden design series where we will be removing anything we don’t like, keeping the things we still love, and giving Tina & Keith the garden of their dreams 🩷

Well done! We are invested so I hope you will give us updates on how this matures.
O.H.M.Y.W.O.R.D! What a transformation! If I didn’t know you designed this beautiful garden, Janette, I would swear it was done by a professional. You two ladies have outdone yourselves. And I think you have pushed me over the edge; I NEED some tree formed shrubs in my garden ASAP. What a spectacular result for all your hard (very hard) work. Well done, ladies!
Seriously well done to you both, you could have a career in garden design! I’m sure Tina is chuffed and you both work so well together. In one of your last videos I saw what looks like a trachycarpus fortunei palm, is that right? I just planted a few the last two weeks and am new to palms. I got that fertiliser you used on your Chamaerops too! Any special care advice for them? X
Beautiful job Ladies, it’s going to be beautiful and give many years of joy 15:05 🥰 you’ve both definitely worked that cake off 😂😂
Perfect choice and placement of the Cherry tree Snow Showers! I love that one, it’s like a mini weeping willow but prettier
Hi Janette, what a huge job! That rotavator looks like a bit of scary fun. Love the choice of plants and looking forward to seeing it all finished next week. Hope we can have updates on Tina's garden to see all those lovely plants as they grow. Hoping you all have a great week. Love Bron xx
Brilliant work ladies, you've both worked really hard and I have enjoyed the progress and the results which you've accomplished!
Hi Janette, I like the nice deep flower beds and the two stepping stone paths. Good choice of plants two. 😊

Beautiful transformation! A lot of work, but so worth the investment of having a peaceful, beautiful space!
What a transformation! Wow!! The plants that were selected are just gorgeous! 😍
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest! 🌻
Well done Janette & Tina!
All your hard work has paid off, the change from day one to now is unbelievable.
The rock garden is my favorite part, sure as the garden matures it will become a lovely colorful space to be enjoyed from the conservatory and patio with a drink
I hope youcan keep everyone posted during the coming months.

Next time I decide to remove grass I think it’s time to get a rota. I’ve never dug so much over the last 3 weekends. Just the idea of planting new plants raises my excitement level. I look forward to seeing this garden in a year or 2’s time. Just lovely!
Looks beautiful – you ladies are STRONG!!! I love the lollipop shapes of the specimen trees, and the weeping cherry in the middle adds so much delicate whimsy!
I do have one thought I wanted to share about the blue spruce – have you checked the tag for the size? The reason I ask is because here in the US pretty much all blue spruce cultivars get very wide and very tall (the size on the tag is expressed in terms of size achieved in 10 years time). Perhaps, based on what the tag says, you might consider giving it a bit more room since it had just been planted.
Having established my garden 5 years ago or so, I am now beginning to deal with some plants encroaching on each other, or the 🙁
Well done ladies, the garden looks amazing, your hard work has paid off! BEAUTIFUL!💐
