Seeded my lawn exactly 11 days ago with JJ Black Beauty. I am getting a good amount of germination and small grass showing.

I am really excited about the process specially after thinking nothing was going to happen and all my work had gone to waste. I’m trying not to get ahead of myself just yet. But any suggestions of fertilizing and mowing?

I did drop a starter fertilizer around the same time I seeded. I am wondering if this was a bad idea given the grass around some of the bare spots is substantially taller than the rest of my lawn.

As a result, current plan is to wait on mowing still however worried the taller grass will not allow the new seed to establish.

Late summer/early fall is the best time to seed cool season lawns.

Regardless, if you are you looking for information about how to overseed a cool season lawn. You can find a comprehensive guide [in this post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/pUsKCxyvwQ)

  2. Next steps? Keep watering it and stay off it. It’ll grow a bit more, then seemingly stop growing for a couple of weeks. It’s growing roots, not growing upwards.

Glad to see this. In the same stage myself and was slightly worried. I will keep watering and stop worrying!

You have to let it grow to at least 2-3 “, regardless of other grass heights.

I did some patches a couple years ago, I cut the surrounding grass as short as to help but it’s gonna be uneven no matter what. Embrace the suck and it’s gonna come back better than ever!! Keep up with your plan and should be good!

  6. Did u just throw the seed down? Did you put soil or Pete moss on top once you seed?
