Would it work out ok to graft one of these short forms to this other cactus as a large “trunk” base? I’ve never grafted anything before but I think this would make an interesting one as long as the short form won’t be too much for the lower cactus. I’m not 100% sure what it is. I think trichocereus grandiflorus but I’m not quite sure. Any suggestions…? 1st picture top shot, 2nd picture bottom shot, 3rd picture top shot. They have all callused for a couple weeks. The Grandiflorus like 5 weeks-ish.

You can graft like this but will heal and then root. Not bad but will look like it’s stalled a long time.

Tbmb make sure you have areoles on the scion. It will take forever if at all to pup.

You want to get 90iso alcohol. And clean the blade religiously and dry with a paper towel to avoid the orange haze damage from the iso.

You want to attach with elastic material of some sort as when they both dry they will get smaller and pull away. Elastic keeps constant pressure.

When you cut the grandi, rub the tip on the root stock to get a paste and let the top rest on the grandi while you cut the scion. You want fresh fresh minimal air. Not Indiana Jones’s fast but less air contact is less contaminates. Kick off the top with your knife and rub the tbm in the goo a couple swirls this in theory is repturing cells so you have polished surface with the goo as glue.

I would wrap rubber bands tip to tip with a ring on the root side to lock the bands. I’m lazy and paranoid so after a week I touch the tip of scion with my finger and hit the bands with razor so they loose kinetic energy and just fall off. There is enough energy to pop the scion off if you let thwump
