  1. The best way to thin carrots is to just use scissors/snips ant cut them off at the soil. This way no β€˜smell’ to attract carrot fly and the left over root adds nutrients to the soil, a win win πŸ˜…. Good video as usual. I am so far behind you, but I’m not worried as I know that this weeks sowing will catch up. I did go the garden centre today and oh! Dear! I bought plug plants, some fennel, cabbage, broccoli cucumber, tomatoes, just to start me off while my seedlings grow πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… and that feeling of getting the growing season going, nothing like it ❀❀

  2. Thank you Mr&Mrs WπŸ˜‡. Enjoy watching your videos than watching tv.
    Learn as well.
    Thanks again πŸ˜‡πŸ‘

  3. Thank you for another educative video. I just wanted to say, don't give up growing beetroot indoors during the winter. I put multisown Bolthardy seedlings in my 6 x 8 polycarbonate greenhouse and they were really happy. Without sparrows munching the leaves they flourished with large shiny leaves and gave us a good harvest in early April – I was surprised at this success and am going to put a lot more in this autumn after the tomatoes come out. On the other hand, some of my garlic in the same greenhouse got blackfly and suffered quite a bit until I noticed and washed them. Those affected were near the door so I shall watch them next time.

  4. I overwintered my spinach (true spinach) outside and it managed to survive, it did look a bit sad during the coldest days but now it's producing abundantly. I have to say it has a much better flavour than beet spinach that I grew in the past.

  5. Disappointing that Mrs W has sown those carrots so poorly – needs improvement! Next time Barry will have to sow all the seed with Mrs W giving words of encouragement whilst holding a Gin and Tonic

  6. A lovely tour of your vegetable garden. I'm going to be planting out all sorts of things over Easter. My Globo Onions are doing well like yours. Our Pak Choi is under serious attack from slugs. But all in all weare doing really well this year. Your channel is very helpful to me.

  7. I am glad to report that, probably because I am no-dig, everything seems to be thriving at the moment, but not quite as advanced as you are, I am sure it will catch up.

  8. I have been gradually transplanting my celery seedlings from small pots in my greenhouse to my allotment. I’ve sown 8 out so far and they’re doing well so far. About 18 more to go. My pak Choi are doing really well this year. I’ve already used a couple. I’ve also planted out kale, broccoli, savoy cabbages and Brussels sprouts this week. I’ve also planted out one of my bulb fennel and have 3 more to go. I’ve also eaten my first peas today. I’d sown some in a 3 large pots in my greenhouse starting in January with several weeks between each pot and have just moved them outside.

  9. All looking good guys ,maybe insulting Mrs Ws carrot sowing is not a good idea! πŸ™‚ .I always grow beetroot through the winter for the leaves ,another great bit of greenery for salads . Have a great chocolate weekend πŸ™‚

  10. Great tips, thank you. I was told mix a 1/3 carrot seed to 2/3 sharp sand & tap gently into pot or row for good carrot spacing… does work well with less thinning to do – what do you think?

  11. Great video Guys I was wondering if you could do a video on watering som time. When to water, how much water, how little. I've seen so many examples of plants being over watered or being watered at the wrong time.

  12. Another great video Brian and Mrs W. Have you ever thought of sending in a video to gardeners world, it would be good to see you on the bbc.

  13. We started watching your videos a month ago and finished putting up an old greenhouse. My daughter and I have been busy planting. The only thing not germinating is the tomatoes. We have built a few raised beds and bought some containers for potatoes, carrots, courgettes and a pumpkin. We seem to be a long way behind but loving the vegetable journey we are on.

  14. Hi both, thanks for the great video. My radish are doing really well, signs of some carrots so I sowed some more. My beetroot is really poor so will have to sow more of those too. Not all doom and gloom though, I have some lovely peas growing well and also some Golden Acre cabbage seedlings in my mini greenhouse 😊

  15. Wow you can really see the differences from 7a to 9a growing zones. The only tings I'm close with is strawberries and the spinach which did survive my cold winter. I'll be catching up to you now though Barry πŸ™‚

  16. Good evening to you both and happy Easter . I direct sowed outside radish, spring onions, beetroot and carrots about 10 days to 2 weeks ago, however they haven’t germinated. Do you think I should sow some more ? Sharon

  17. Just harvested our first Ailsmere cauliflower this week, the first time I've grown this variety and the first decent cauliflower I've managed to grow for years.
Top class video this week πŸ‘

  18. Another great video, the good the bad and the ugly. I like that, I need to sow some more, my sweetcorn finally came up.
