So I had this lovely plant, Pepper, and for some reason she was floundering, just not growing and becoming dull and losing her color. And one by one all of her leaves started to drop, the roots had all dried up and what was left of Pepper was this one dull yellowing leaf.

Rather than tossing her away, I took that leaf and put it into some new soil and kept it in my makeshift greenhouse. And for a whole year, Pepper just stayed the same. Her color didn't get better, her stripes didn't come back, but she didn't die either. So I just kept an eye on her, watering her when the soil got dry and this went on for about a year.

And this spring, Pepper has sprouted a new baby leaf, a beautiful chartreuse little leaf. The whole time I was thinking nothing is happening, here Pepper was growing new roots into new soil, finding her footing and once she felt secure, she sprouted.

Today when I looked in on Pepper, I thought there must be a little Pepper in all of us.
