Hey guys!

This is what my mystery plant looked like after this weekend. It rained the past couple of days and then was pretty hot today. I’m not sure if this is normal or if it has something to do with the roots looking a bit unhealthy.

Context: I had a little baby sprout that started growing from a hole in my bin about month ago. After only 37 days since I noticed, this guy has grown enormously. I decided to leave him alone, just letting it grow and see what comes out of it. It finally started to flower, but I noticed the leaves were droopy. I inspected the roots and saw it started to turn dark green and look a bit suspicious.

Question: Should I cut the plant out of my bin somehow and attempt to salvage him? I can’t pull it out from the bin itself.

It looks like it might have squash vine borers.

Those look like the male flowers, which fall off quite early/easily.

It’s possible it’s just being dramatic because of the sun, see if the leaves perk back up in the evening

I vote let it do its thing and see what happens.

It’s either dehydrated or it is dying from a squash bore.

Check under leaves for pests + if it needs water or even a shade cloth while it’s young if it’s in direct sun. Male flowers do shrivel and fall off.

When watering, do so in the morning on the ground directly, don’t get the leaves wet as it increases the chance for powdery mildew on squash leaves.

You’ll find squash vine bore marking around the base of the stem. It’ll look like lil crumbly dust piles.

Squash or zucchini, they don’t like that much sun but she’ll be alright in the evening/morning
