I’m lost I’ve tried a lot. I can’t get these damn dandelions and crab grass to leave my lawn be. I’ve sprayed weed killer as well as weed and feed. I don’t understand it’s almost like the weed and feed fucking killed off my grass and then fed the damn weeds. I have a few neighbors who have them too. Is there something you guys recommend I do first? I have done some research with potential solutions found, but I was curious to see if anyone would be so kind to share any input.

For Context
I live in Ohio and this is Kentucky Blue Grass.
I used STA Green Performance Max from Home Depot. Covered my lawn TWICE over the last month. Once before the weeds even showed up. Then a few weeks later I covered again. I also went in and tried spot treating with RoundUP Weed Killer For Lawns. Sure it kills a few but you guys see the images… The pictures are only a few days apart. THEY KEEP COMING BACK AND THERES TWICE AS MANY.

Now I’ve read that you can pull the weeds which I have tried in a fewer small areas… I guess I could set aside my weekend and pull every single one of those damn mfers.
Aerating the yard is potentially a good idea I read about. Should I try that before applying anymore chemicals on my yard?
For the record no kids or pets so as long as it doesn’t kill the grass I don’t mind using those. I just feel like I keep burning money and my time putting all this bs on these weeds just for them to come back with twice as many next week.

PLEASE THIS IS A CALL FOR HELP. I DONT TRUST YOUTUBERS WITH ALL THEIR PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF BRAND DEALS. I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE INTO PAYING A COMPANY TO DO THIS EITHER. 😭

(First two pictures are from 3 days ago … as you can see in the last two pictures it’s gotten MUCH worse.)

My plan was to start seeding my lawn by now but I read that it’s a bad idea to do that before ridding your lawn of weeds because they won’t allow the grass to grow.

ANY input on anything and I mean anything you can would be GREATLY appreciated. Let me know what to avoid also. I’m just now starting to put my head into lawn care so a lot of this is still all new to me.

Thank you! Have a great evening!

I don’t have much advice but I feel your pain. I make it a routine when I go outside to have a vape, I would pull 5 weeds. And I vape at least 10 times a day on my off days and 4 times a day during my work days. It kept the Dandelions pretty minimal.

I guess what I’m saying is to pick up smoking to get rid of your weeds. lol.

OH as well and yard looked the same.. bought Speedzone and a 4gal pump sprayer off amazon. Sprayed whole yard. all weeds/clover were destroyed in a few days and did not hurt the grass. Just keep kids/pets off it for a few hours afterwards

This was my lawn when I got my house. Just need to spray and pull and stay on top of it and it will get easier each year. This year I only have 30 or so as opposed to 200!!!

  6. Quinclorac + Tzone (or Triad Tz). Just use a backpack sprayer and wear long pants/shirt plus a mask!

It’s strong stuff but I’ve had complete success with this combo

Just don’t share that post with anyone outside this group or you’ll get absolutely slaughtered by the ✨bUt The PoLLiNaToRz✨ crowd.

Go on Amazon and buy either Grandpa’s Weeder or the Fiskars 4 (not 3) claw garden Weeder. My lawn a few years ago was more weeds than grass and despite shelling out over a grand on a local company (coupled with my neighbors who don’t do anything to their lawns), the only thing that made a dent was removing the weeds via the stems. I’m literally salivating at how satisfying a few of those weeds you posted would be to rip out with my GW. If you don’t remove the root, they will just come back.

Grandpa’s Weeder, some good music, and 15-20 minutes a session, your lawn will be clear in a few days. It’s incredibly addicting and satisfying.

At least they’re greenish, or a contrasting yellow, purple, or white.

Specracide hose spray bottle should do the trick. Make sure it’s the one for weeds not weeds and lawn.

Ortho weed b gon with the yellow cap

Tzone! Works for wonders on broad leaf weeds. But really blanket spraying tenacity in early spring. Two applications should do the trick, read label for timing/application rates. Don’t use surfactant for pre emergent.

Better to be proactive than reactive. As with most things in life.

Trimec does a fine job for me with dandelions.

Do what i did this year and buy a grandpas weed puller. It is so easy to use and does not strain your back or knees. I was amazed how easily it pulls weeds out. For years i sprayed my lawn with chemicals to only have the weeds come back. Now with grandpas weed puller i look forward to pulling weeds.

  15. So_Many_Questions_24

I felt that. I’m in the exact same boat. I even bought a weed torch and tried burning all the dandelions. Next day they’re back either a vengeance. 🙈

  16. Tzone se with a sprayer. They’ll be gone. Or just a basic post-germination weed and feed and that should take care of them

Dandelion doom from Sunday lawn care works well in my fescue lawn. I use Quinclorac 75 DF Selective Herbicide for all the grassy weeds like crab. These are both post emergents

I live in Utah and the state flower should be the dandelion. They are everywhere! As other mentioned, the Grandpa’s Weeder is awesome! I go out every couple days and only spend about 5 minutes pulling dandelions.

Everyone says pre-emergent is the way to go but I think the weather screwed me over this year. We had some unseasonably warm days (high seventies) early March here in Northern Illinois which I think messed with application timing because now I’m seeing lots of weeds as well. Gonna try a post-emergent this weekend.

  20. Go to your university extension office or website. I’m ssuming Ohio State will be yours. They should have studies for your climate. No matter the climate you need to lay down a barrier with your choice of pre emergent herbicide (prediamine, however you spell it) then come back two weeks later and kill with a post emergent(Trimec, Vessel). In general, your barrier can be granules but your post emergent needs to be a liquid. There is no magic product, those were just examples of pre’s and posts. Your extension office should be a big help or google a similar or close state and read a bit. It’s all a lot easier than people make it out to be. Good luck

  21. I love when dandelions grow in my yard. Because that means I get to use this thing!

Fiskars 4-Claw Stand Up Weed Puller Tool, Gardening Hand Weeding Tool with 39″ Long Ergonomic Handle with Easy-Eject Mechanism https://a.co/d/1q6ZLMT

Every lawn dude or dudette needs one.

Weed and feed are generally weak in both feeding and/or weeding. The most effective dandelion-killing herbicides for lawns are Trimec formulations. These products consist of a combination of three herbicides (2,4-D, mecoprop and dicamba). Quinclorac is a recent addition to many broadleaf weed formulations.

  23. Cosmic0blivion

My best way to get rid of the dandelions before they become puffs is to invite my nieces over and have a contest to see who can get the most lol

At the end of the day you can only take care of yourself. Any neighbor on your block not taking care of theirs is going to cause you problems. So either spray their yard or go tell them to give half a crap.
