Had a barrel full of finished compost from last year. There was a small hole at the bottom of the barrel and a tree put a root in it. Now it's a compost root ball.
I had the same thing! In 3 separate bins. Found it as I was transferring to a tumbler and some of the roots are still a bit clumped. All sand and roots. Definitely want to pull that apart as much as you can or put it back into long-term/hot compost.

On the bright side, now it’s very moveable!

You made a tree very happy, for a little while

Wow it’s beautiful. Imagine being a tree and putting your roots in a barrel full of juicy organic material

I want to high five that tree.

I have a couple piles that I keep next to our compost system, that have been invaded by tree roots. I just dig them out as I get to them.

Mix up some root enzymes and soak the compost with it.

Just chop it up and use it as mulch, there will still be plenty of useful stuff in there.

They used to plant apple trees in graveyards because they’re heavy calcium feeders. Same idea!

work to clear the roots will be worth it!
