Am I asking for trouble here? I had a relatively small piece of scion, and tried to trim down the spines, but I just took off the wrap and the smaller spines have pierced into the cut top of the stock.
will this certainly fail? or worth a try?

It’ll probably be ok but if you’re worried just cut them and throw some sulfur on it. It could be a source of infection and that’s a really nice variegated so id probably take the safe route.
