Hi all,

I have these ivy marks on garage wall at rear of my garden. Does anyone have any tips for removing them?

I’ve tried power wash and it doesn’t touch it. Is it a case of spending a while scraping/sanding it off?

Or is there an easier solution?

I just want to repaint it white so don’t mind if it ruins the paint etc

I haven’t used ivy stain remover but I have seen it! There are also fungicides and jeyes fluid and all sorts of outside wall/driveway washes that kill biological things in different ways. I’ve used jeyes fluid on driveway – it’s acceptable. Might be worth looking at the online reviews for these things. After that, scrub it with something rough and then use a stabilizing solution to prepare it before you repaint.
….Since you have some other flaky bits of paint and maybe some hidden blown bits might exist, You could do a masonry paint stripper and then you’ll be able to get back to the render, put the stabilizing solution on that render and re-paint on a prepped, posh new surface.

Stiff wire brush will do it, can get a drill/ grinder one if you want to save some effort

  3. My rubbish exterior decorators have just addressed this (on rough render) by putting a thin coat of render over it with a sponge. Not sure if it’s better or worse, but it’s an option. I have left this for multiple years and it did not go away on its own.
