Hello Greenhouse folks! 🌱
We're in zone 5b and we're doing a hybrid version of a walipini. We'll be doing more backfill around the outside and all the framing you see will be clear plastic except the back wall (we want to vent that, too.) There will be two screened windows in the front wall we can open, and a screen/storm door.
Any advice? Tips? We've gotten an UNNI Thermometer System to install when everything is up, and I'm still looking for a good battery operated fan for air flow.
I'm very excited!!! Thank you for any help!

Keep the snow off in the winter, I would have put a steeper slope on the roof but it can work. Maybe some wire mesh under the plastic to help support it.
I use an Inkbird Bluetooth temperature logger to get detailed data collection from my greenhouse. I can see the coldest point of the night(right before sunrise) and see how much heat my bricks are storing. I’d be interested to see how yours performs.
This is cool. Keep sharing! I want to see how it works out for you. Thinking of doing something similarÂ
Hi, can you answer a question about your concrete mix? Eyeballing your picture, it looks like an 8×12 structure, and I’m going to take a guess that you decided to go with 6″ perimeter walls and an 8″ thick central partition. 8″ tall footings, about 12″ wide. Based on height perception of all things, about 112 cubic feet or about 4 yards… did you mix and pour this by hand (wheelbarrow+shovel method?) or use a basic electric mixer and do it yourself? Also how long did it take? Concrete in my area would cost about 250bags x $7CAD each for a rough cost of about $1750 to form your structure; let’s add about 10% here or there, $2k for concrete.
Thanks, really curious about your setup.
would love to see the plans, this is what i intend to do as well… i am 5a
