We’ve all been there – we spend so much time, energy and money sowing our seeds with enthusiasm and excitement…only to end in disappointment and failure. It’s a sorry state. But don’t worry, Ben is here to hold our hand and walk us through five simple steps to make sure that our seedlings never fail and to show us how to make them not only survive but to thrive. Hurray!

  1. Nothing relaxes me as much as gardening… there is always something to look forward to. Nature is amazing.

  2. Last night I transplanted some baby lettuces that hadn't even developed their first set of true leaves, but my four year old lettuce seed had nearly 100% germination, so my planting them thickly indoors had caused a problem. Since you said you could transplant them that early I tried it. Today they all look great, with no wilting at all. What a surprise! I had a few crowded ones left over so I just transplanted those into the garden. Fingers crossed that they will do well too. 🙂

  3. Cant watch this because its too cartoonish. Popping sound effects 30 seconds in? Goofy voice pitch changes…. too childish

  4. I just have my windowsills to grow floweres but everything I have tried come up fine.Alas they always then het covered with a grey mouldy substance. The next move is into the dustbin. I've given up

  5. Have you heard of the seed snail method? It looks like it saves space and has amazing results. I will try it this year.

  6. How I wish I had had a father like you. So much to learn, so nice.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I am quite new at this and I am overwhelmed with the couple of tomato seedlings I got 😀

  7. Trick 16: just put one seed in each seedling container. Don't put in two or three seeds. So you can skip the pricking apart part. Seeds that don't grow: take em out and replace.

  8. why didn't you mention nutrition, i had 200 eucalyptus deglupta seeds sprout ,they got to 1inch high then 99 percent died over next 2 months, i started fertilizing and the remaining few quickly started to grow. the seed raising mix claimed to have 6 months of nutrition.

  9. Your comment that multi-sowing doesn't compromise the final harvest is incorrect, they're always smaller. If they weren't commercial producers would do it, but they always plant separately.
Potting mix DOES need to be fertile (dependent on how long the plant is in there of course, but it's often weeks).

  10. Where would i find plug trays with large holes in the bottom, as i find it impossible to get them out of the ones i have at the moment, Thank you

  11. Sometimes my seedlings just stop growing! They get 2 leaves, then stay like that for about 2 weeks. What’s going on?
Great channel Ben, and been following for years now. You have a very positive attitude 👍

  12. I find gardening very stressful because when I get it right, I cannot figure out what I did.
    Overwater, under-watered,
Its ongoing confusion as some dry out and others get root rot.
    Sometimes I get lucky

  13. # 1: "Pricking out." My Statistics professor in college used to prick out on days that he had a bad hangover. He'd throw stuff around the classroom, swear at us etc. One early morning they found him passed out at the wheel smashed into a giant sign.

  14. Well im not a very lucky person. You can give me any seeds and its pure luck if they sprout. Let alone survive and grow. Even when following all the tips. I try year after year and just no luck with plants.

  15. I use my car as a makeshift greenhouse. I keep the windows cracked so they get a tiny breeze at the same time.

  16. Both perlite AND vermiculite? That’s like adding both hot and cold water to adjust a bath’s temperature. Either you want water to drain through the soil (perlite) or be held onto (vermiculite). Correct me if I’m wrong!

  17. Gutes Video , aber Vermiculite: ein Aluminium-Eisen-Magnesium-Silikat, aus der Baubranche,
Würde ich mir jetzt nicht im Gemüse wünschen. 🤷🏼‍♀️
