The backyard of this home is super small so I’d host bbqs and other events in the front yard.

I was wondering if it would look bad to fence this entire front section off and remove the brushes?

At the very least I’d need to fence it off in order to contain my dogs.

  1. It would look weird, but that’s just like… my opinion man

I’m sure it could be done in a way that doesn’t look tacky. Does your area have any height restrictions on front fences? Sometimes they can only be a few feet high

Would definitely keep everyone’s property taxes as low as possible.

  4. In my opinion it would probably look a little weird since it isn’t the norm

But also it’s your house and if your neighborhood has no rules against it, then go for it!

Maybe a higher hedge but a fence would look kind of weird and off putting

IMO you have to either keep the shrubs or add a fence with smaller complementary plants. Shrubs + Fence would look cluttered and confusing.

I think it looks great like this, a fence and fewer plants would look cleaner, but this is more my style. I’m an anti-minimalist.

I mean, you have a car port. 🤷‍♂️

Voting no to the fence. Shrubs are well kept and pleasant to look at.

call local township to ask permits and laws on this. some places don’t allow it

  10. Whether it’s ugly or not is a secondary concern, as it’s quite likely against your municipal regulations or codes to have a 6′ privacy fence in your front yard. Check with your town.

Being that you’re on a corner, I doubt you can put a fence in the “front” yard

  13. Why not just build a moat around the property too?

Replace with arborvitaes, which (in time) will grow and provide the privacy you are seeking. Just be sure to keep up with trimming them (top & all sides)

Check local laws on front of house fence heights. In my county it can only be four feet unless it’s considered a “dog run.” In that case it can go to six feet. Jeff bezos pays daily fines for his front of house two story hedge.

Is your house so unless you’re in a HOA, you can do what you want but I wouldn’t do it. I would use higher privacy shrubs or maybe tall thin trees to give privacy but not look strange.

No to fence, plant trees like thuja green giant instead.

  18. Seems like you have a very large side-yard area (on the right in your photos). You could just move the existing fence forward and make that part of the backyard. This would give you a lot of private space without fencing the “front yard”.

What you could do instead of a fence… tear out those low shrubs and put in a hedge. Such hedges are common as dirt in many places. It may stick out in your neighborhood though. There may be restrictions against it as well.

Make sure you put in a corner relief garden in the corner so drivers can see oncoming traffic at the intersection.

For your dogs, you can get an invisible fence installed.

  20. I would do it if you’re allowed. I love my privacy fence. Don’t really care what people think of the street view

  21. This is me personally, but I’ve always hated the look of fences in front yards, privacy, chain link whatever. Again that’s me, you do you.
