So someone gave me their plant, and It grew really slow so I decided to see if it needs repotting, and it does as you can see, but how do I get it out of this pot since the roots have grown so much. It’s an african fig tree (I think).
Cut the pot with a box cutter. If you are planting it, you could loosen/ trim the rootball some or it’s wrapped around or too compact.

Either cut the pot or cut the roots

Definitely just cut the pot

You have to root prune this to get it out of the pot. After root pruning, prune the plant too. Fewer roots need a smaller plant to sustain itself. YouTube has lots of instructional videos on this topic.

If the pot is made of bendy plastic, you can squeeze the sides of the pot and all the roots and dirt should come out in one go

Just cut the roots, no need to waste a pot. If you’re worried about cutting roots, look up some bonsai videos. You can cut off a serious amount of roots and the plant will be just fine.

Chop de roots; chop de pot

No don’t cut the pot. That huge mat of roots needs to be removed anyway.

Cut the pot
Corvidae5Creation5
Cut the roots, they need to go anyway.
Then you can wiggle it out of the pot.
Cut down the root ball to 1/3 its current size, and also prune down the branches to thin out the foliage and get it in a shape you want it.
Then put it in a bigger pot or the ground.

Cut the excess roots off. It won’t damage the plant

Whack off all those overgrown roots.

Please just cut the roots. You’re gonna have to cut them anyway when you get it out of there cause they’re too tight so you might as well do it now and save yourself a pot.
