Container gardening has been a relatively recent addition to my horticultural repertoire. Though I have been planting an in ground garden since before my memory begins, I immensely enjoy my porch garden.

Rather than planting ornamental bedding plants (plants like begonias, impatiens, creeping jenny, Martha Washington geraniums, etc.) in the containers on my porch each season, I plant “edimentals.”

Edimental is a cutesy way of labeling plants that serve as both an ornamental and edible plant wrapped into one. Yes, eggplants can be pretty on the porch, too!

Watch my monthly Unearth Horticulture episode to see the varieties that I am potting up on the porch this year, and to discover tips and tricks for container gardening success.
