Hello. I'm wondering what to do? I bought this plant at Home Depot about 5 or 6 years back. It was only about two feet in height. Since then it has grown faster than I could imagine. It's about to hit the ceiling. I didn't know these plants grew that quickly. Any advice on how to keep it healthy and not break through the roof please… !!!

You can chop these plants anywhere on the stem and they will just put shoots out the sides and keep going. If I were you I’d cut it up and pot into several smaller pots and replace with a strelitzia nicolai, you could have the most glorious one ever here

Oh, my gosh! Somehow your entryway atrium has absolutely optimal growing conditions. That’s a crazy amount of growth for what’s typically considered a slow growing plant. You could just prune the top back and let it branch out.

Honestly, I’d be tempted to rip it out and put a more aesthetically pleasing or interesting tropical in instead, just because I could. A variegated banana or citrus tree? Idk.

Cut off the top 2/3. Then cut that cutting into 3, remove the bottom 2 leaves from each cutting and jam them into the soil. They’ll likely root no problem and you will have a full dracaena with approx 7 shoots growing up now instead of the one.

You’re probably gonna need to make the skylight taller.

It took mine 20 years to reach the ceiling. I was very traumatized, my husband was telling me to put it out on the street, but I finally got up the nerve and chopped it. I cut it back to 3 feet, cut the top 3 feet off the chopped of stalk-trimmed the bottom leaves, put some rooting hormone on it and stuck it in the same pot. That left me with about 6 feet of middle stalk. So I cut those up in in three sticks, some rooting hormone and potted them up. Every thing lived. The cut off stalks all put out new stalks-two per stalk. Several friends got the babies and I have the same plant with three stalks where there used to be one.

My Janet Craig is also very tall and started off like a stick, more or less.

You can just open the skylight up and let it climb out and be free to join its people…

Even your dog is concerned. I think you have an ent wife on your hands and definitely should be washing/wiping the leaves weekly, potting, or refreshing the soil, etc.
