  1. Another thing to mention is temperature. Ibe always done nearly a week doubling the time. One hour, two hours, four hours and so on. I loved seeing this because it will help move it a long. But remember if you have peppers or tomatoes and it’s still in the low 40s to mid 50s you may want to wait to start hardening off so they aren’t outside when it’s that cold. You can tell me I’m wrong though. You are the expert! Thanks for another informative video

  2. Living in the mild weather of the PNW, I don’t harden off. My plants seem fine. I’m sure they’d be happier if I hardened off, but it works for me. Cheers to spring, gardeners!

  3. I put cloches (giant pickle jars)over my tomato seedlings. I didn’t realize they would need hardening off from them too and they got burnt.

  4. Even when trying to harden off properly, they always seem to burn. I’ve found I have to put them outside in FULL shade for a couple days 1st

  5. I’ve put seedlings outside for 1/2 hour and they got burnt. I opened my window in front of my seedlings for a couple hours and they burnt.

  6. What about the gardeners that work away from home during the day and can't bring in the plants at the correct time intervals?

  7. I need to move some tomatoes and peppers from the seed starting house to the poly tunnel greenhouse any tips would be great. Footnote your purple peppers loved the high tunnel last season same as Honey Rock cantaloupe.

  8. I’m literally not in my house for 12 hours of every day, so I’ve had to improvise. I’ve found that giving them water as soon as I get home (around 5-ish) and putting them outside to get a couple of hours of sun before the shade starts setting in works pretty well. I just have to extend the acclimation. I typically will do it for a couple of weeks and it seems to work for me.

  9. Luke, I feel like there’s a lil too much fear mongering with your information here. TBH there’s a chance of the plants being stunted if you follow your “rules”. Please be careful telling people that if they don’t follow these directions, that they will kill their plants. It’s simply not true.

  10. I only have 12.5 hours of daylight right now. I start all my seeds outside on my lanai throughout winter. Nighttime temps are usually in the 60's and daytime in the 80's. My sunflowers have been beautiful, but I'm ready to plant my tomatoes outside. 🌊🏝🌋 Oahu 👍

  11. How do you keep your greenhouse warm at night? I have indoor seeds/plants that I want to move to my greenhouse. But despite greenhouse getting very warm during the day, it pretty much reaches ambient temperature at night.
I see one day in the next two weeks at 33 degrees but no freezing. Is it ok now to move inside plants to the greenhouse?

  12. We have high uv. I do something similar. But I find 2hr blocks better for where I'm at. But yes this works great. I like to harden over 2 weeks. I probably could speed that up. Per your suggestion. I just find that extra week seems to show less stress signs. But i have never compared 1 week vs 2. Also I moved my seed starting spot close to a window so the seedlings get 2hrs of sun near lunchtime. That seems to help the first day. I mean its still an interior window so there's uv filtering. I just mean that first day outside seems to be less hard on them since I've changed that last year.

  13. The first six hours should be in the morning ? Six hours of afternoon sun would be too much wouldn’t it? My afternoon temperatures are in the mid 70 right now.

  14. If i put my seedlings outside for three hours day one they would be burnt to a crisp (ask me how I know 😢). I put them under an 80% shadecloth for a few days first to get them acclimated to our intense AZ sun. It really does matter what area of the country and what elevation you live in.

  15. Perfect timing, my seedlings are out for their first little field trip. I like to imagine seeing the sun for the first time is kind of a mind blowing experience for them. 🤯

  16. I can't even think about bringing plants out till at least end of May here in zone 6b. Been unusually cold n fluctuations in temps. Nights so chilly.

  17. Nope nope nope. You will fry your plants. Always always start acclimating your plants to the sun on a warmer CLOUDY day or in the shade for 2 hours day one at MOST. After a couple days in the shade add 30 MINUTES of full direct sun each day over the course of a couple of weeks until they’re in the sun for atleast 6 hours each day. Then you’ll have hardened off plants without damage. Also always make sure they’re not in an overly windy spot or it’s not too cold outside

  18. Looked up few days ago, my grow light is 5500 lumens, and sun is 36,200 Trillion lumens😊

  19. We start by putting them out under a sunscreen for a day then taking them back in. This has worked for us. Out in the Morning under cover, back in after work. Our problem is keeping the squirrels out of them.

  20. Living approximately 10 miles south of you, our temperatures have been below average for quite awhile and also upcoming. Is there a minimum temperature we can start hardening off?

  21. we had snow today here in Massachusetts, and another one in d forecast tonight until Saturday afternoon. so not so ready for anything yet, aside from my garlic & d walking onions I ordered from u last year
