Do you use rhe front yard? If you do, build a wooden deck. Move steps in front of deck. Get some small weave netting in front of the holes under your house. They can keep bugs out; but, still allow air flow
Having gravel delivered is cheaper than buying it by the bag. I think a bigger porch would be nicer than leaving it. I wonder if you could just put pavers over the walk in order to avoid having to rip out the concrete? Depends on how level the walkway is, I suppose.
Money is important, BUT if you want to make good & permanent decisions, don't settle on anything that cant easily be re-addressed when you have the finances. I'd address the most important foundational things within your budget first. When your budget opens back up, you go to the foundations of the next item. After foundational items, you add functional, then aesthetic. I hope this helps- Good luck on your yard journey!â¤
The pathway is the easiest to start with. Id do concrete again and you can do molds that make it have different patterns. The flower bed you can start on only if your sure that you dont want to estend your porch in that direction. If you plant the flowers use pine bark if you can very classy looking make sure to build a barrier behind the flower bed tho. For your porch take time to figure out what you want. Are you looking to just extend or cover it down the road. Would you spend time sitting out there if you could or would you be more in the backyard? Also, do some rough drawings and get some inspo pics for it. â¤
Itâs always very wise to do the hardscape before you do landscaping! Consider how youâd like to use the yard. If you wonât like sitting out front, then donât do anything that looks like you ought to. Itâs a waste of money. If you just want it to invite people to say hello and come inside then go for something more ornamental, but maintenance, like an accent fence that has an ornamental newel post and a little pretty fencing beside it, on either side of a nice walkway. You can make a cheap walkway with cement and cement molds. You could also just get a power washer and then paint and seal all of your cement features until you figure out what you really want. Itâs cheap, quick and will look refreshed for now. And itâs always wise to select native plants because they need the least maintenance and attention. And keep non native plants in the pots enabling you to protect them when the weather would damage them. Itâs just fine to have both.
I would say have John build you some more boxes to go on the ground for each side of the house. You can then keep your plants in there pots and it will be easier to move them. If you want to add a deck/ porch in the future. I would do pavers or me cement for the walk way. You could also mulch around the house. It is easier than rocks. I always hate when rocks get in the grass when you are trying to mow. I think a little white picked fence would be adorable for your houseâ¤
Yaupon Holly is really nice and FL native. They aren't fast growing and are very hardy. I agree with others to figure out path/walkway first and i think rocks over sidewalk would be so annoying with mowing and would spread too much.
I think it would be worth saving to build a brick/concrete porch that would last for decades rather than a wood porch that would require a lot of maintenance
So I don't know about your budget but I suggest to put concrete instead of pavements. Pavements can grow weed in between and it is a lot of maintenance. Same with rocks.. so my suggestions for low maintenance is to put a long concrete "deck" on the front and side of your house. Then the flowers can border the concrete. Fences is not a thing where I live so I have no suggestions for that. Btw concrete now has so many options and cute ones too (with paterns and all) have fun! So exiting!
Getting rocks/pebbles/gravel delivered by the ton is FAR cheaper than getting bags at the store and getting those delivered. I donât know where you are in Florida, but Pebble Junction in Sanford has really good prices.
I would redo the concrete walkway first. Even just redoing the concrete will have a big impact. You can also plant along the edge of walkway either flowers or any small plant really. I would add gravel to the front of the house and space out the planters you have. You could add one more but they do need to be spaced out evenly. This is where I would start. It would have the largest impact on curb appeal. Then if finances allow you could do more. But I think just those 3 things could change how you feel everyone you come in.
I wouldn't do gravel for the walkway as the stones will get kicked all over the place and in your grass and then the mower will eventually find them. I would do Rock in your flower beds around the house with a border and then put the plants on top of the Rock in containers. For the walkway, it's best to go with new concrete. Or you could do it yourself using molds, but that doesn't last long. Spend the extra money and have a permanent walkway that will last you many years. And with new concrete there's all kind of design choices like stamped or colored etc.
Orange oil, lady bugs, and pray mantis have been the best thing thatâs kept pests away and itâs natural. I use it on my plants all the time and itâs helped my garden flourish. I also recommend researching native plants that work as pest control.
Maybe instead of just loose gravel around the house consider a rock garden area around the house with 1 to 2 in rock with brick, stone, or even a super short wood fencing to hold it in. If not you will end up with the gravel traveling into your yard and messing with the lawnmower and you'll have grass growing into it. Plus it can be shapely and cute and give you a nice area for your potted plants.
A new deck would elevate the look of the front of the house. Definitely remove the cracked concrete. You don't wanna put rocks on top of concrete because it'll be slippery and the rocks will shift all the time. I'd do a new concrete walkway or pavers. You can do it yourself in sections.
Gravel and delivery doesn't cost too much. Call a gravel yard not a box store, for the best price

They do have gravel glue that is completely safe. That would help with kicking the rocks
Pavers for the walk way. Maybe a small porch in front, not a deck đ

I would no on fence. If you build the wood deck, you can use railing around deck as fence.
Rent a van from u haul or home depot.

Look into florida natives, there meant for the area and should be really low maintenance once established

Pavers definitely!!! Nice walkway to your beautiful house⌠now can you tell me what bedroom lamps you have haha

If you were to build a small fence I would line your boundary of your property with bushes or plants or line the outside of the fence with bushes
Use the rock glue to keep the little pebbles in place

Yes to the fence

Rebuild a deck!!! Its will make the house look more inviting. Not that it isnt now but it will feel more cozyđ¤â¤ď¸

Try mulch around your foundation. You can get a truck load delivered to your house for about $200

There is a gravel glue so rocks won't get kicked out
My votes are… Yes deck and pavers, yes gravel around house, maybe rose bush closer to the road, no fence at street
