Aerated and top dressed the last 2 springs and don’t have much to show for it yet. I have noticed water now permeates through the clay better though. The battle continues
If you figure out how to fix it, I’m all ears. I’ve basically given up. It’s all hard packed clay

Top dressed with what? compost?
make sure to get a soil test. Might consider gypsum if your lawn is high in sodium.
But yeah just continue aerating and adding compost and maybe a little sand. It might be slow but it will help.
Humic acid, fulvic acid, and seaweed/kelp, biochar should help as well.

You need some organic material in there. Post aeration is best time to do this, as you have holes everywhere. I like a mix of Humichar from The Andersens, or Lesco’s Carbon Pro G, or CarbonPhix from Kelp4Less.
I also apply a liquid mix of my own concoction…humics, kelp, molasses, etc…stuff that makes soil happy and healthy.

I live in North Texas with very alkaline, clay soil. 500 million years ago this place was at the bottom of an ocean. It’s just how it is.
About 15 years ago, two years in a row, I had 12 cubic yards of composted horse manure delivered and spread it over my entire yard. Each time, the Bermuda just grew up through it. Over the following years it has slowly broken down and renovated the top few inches of my topsoil. Much further down and its still the same old clay, but the most important layer close to the surface is where most of the action is anyway.

I’ve aerated and topdressed with compost for years now and my soil is choice. Just gotta be patient and keep doing it.

Do you collect the aeration plugs ?

My clay soil in NC looks the same. Aerated, added 1/2” compost, over-seeded.
My Kentucky Blue Grass & Tall Fescue is growing like crazy. I have to mow every 5 days, I hope it slows down!
