my purple asparagus just got delivered ! how many gallons should a pot be for 1 crown ?
Absolutely beautiful garden—it brings peace to the soul. I lost my farm to a hurricane in 2018, and it broke me. But by God’s grace, I now earn a steady $33k every fortnight. It brought joy back to my family, and seeing nature thrive again in your videos heals me more than words can say.❤
Had potatoes in the ground before all this rain i sure hope that they didn't rot
I gardened with my Dad when I was little. I started gardening in 2020. What a flop. I learned so much from YT and reading. 2021 was fantastic. I learned how to pressure can and waterbath can. I now have blueberry plants, strawberries, red lake currants, red raspberries and black berries. And I absolutely have to grow your Long Island Cheese pumpkins. Such a beautiful pumpkin. I'm growing everything your growing and more.❤
I use roasted okra seeds as a coffee substitute.
2012? It was 2008-2009 that was so dicey. 👩🌾 My 2 by 4 bed rotted; I built it from scraps in 2020. My block bed is still good; beans and zinnias this year. My cold crops are coming on now. I’m definitely going to expand my garden over time. Thanks.
Your earnestness and sincerity are obvious here. Thanks, Luke! I left in the middle of the video to my ReStore to hopefully find some cheap stuff to make trellises with, so I can get some of these things planted.
I found 2 x 8 x 20 boards at the Troy Home Depot. It was a fluke because someone returned them. I hope that they're willing to cut it in half because I don't think it will fit in my HHR 😂
Another benefit of picking fresh from your garden is near zero produce waste.
❤❤❤❤
Regarding the garlic. Do you break up the heads so you have individual cloves in the fridge?
-Things aren’t going to go south.
-I wish I liked zucchini.
-I can’t grow 90% of your list until this fall.
Great advice. I grow chicory in case I cant get coffee, too. Priorities. 😂
I’d rather have a recession than 4 more years of inflation.
Thank you, Luke. This is timely. I hope others hear your advice.
Fired the nanny? Right
Great video… thanks for caring!
Thank You!
Chickory would be good to mix in with coffee grounds to stretch what we have and "hide" that it isn't all coffee.
Sweet potatoes because they are nutritious and you can eat the leaves as well as the root. I have accidental pumpkins😂
I was looking for a video like this last fall so I could plan for this year. Thank you!
I'm surprised you didn't add in a cherry tomato, like a yeelow pear or something. Just because they produce so quickly and so long and make such a great snack, especially for the kids. Great list otherwise.
Well so sorry you went political on your channel. I have been a long term subscriber and customer of your website. I am unsubscribing and not buying a thing from your website in the future. Good luck with your hysteria!!
I approached my garden season in this same way. I also invested in another greenstalk and signed up for a garden plot at my community garden to maximize my ability to grow food for myself and extended family. My plans to grow a bunch of “fancy” tomatos will wait for next year. I’m growing cherry tomatos, a slicer, and paste tomatos. A lot of squash, winter and summer. Green peppers, leeks, onions. Anaheim chilis and tomatillos. All the cabbages. All the lettuces and spinach. All the beans. One thing I’m doing that you didn’t mention is beans for drying. They are currently fairly inexpensive, but they are transported to me from pretty far away so i expect their costs to go up. I’m growing navy beans, pinto beans, and borlotti beans to dry. I also abandoned my plans to grow all the very weird and wonderful potato varieties and am focused on the tried and true. I’m glad you decided to plant your home garden, and thank you for making this video.
They was just saying on channel 13oys that coffe is going up a lot in price . Bad harvest I guess .
The left owns the media and fear-mongers. They thrive on creating issues they can pretend to care about and help. Grow veggies for food – that's good – it's not political. If you go political I will buy no more of your seeds. You want to 'recession-proof' your garden move to a red state. All those exorbitant prices come from your blue state regulators trying to fi thing with taxes – a.k.a. steal your money. Why is gasoline $6.00 in Kalifornistan and $2.50 in South Carolina? REGULATIONS. TAXES. Trump is de-regulating the fed but the states are fighting losing their power and illicit funds. I'll be interested to watch "your" recession while southern states suspiciously have none.
Love that you are being aware of the country's climate right now and sharing advice to help everyone be able to eat! I didn't know that thing about chicory and now I might just have to get some when I go out tomorrow! Thank you for sharing your hard work and advice!
Getting ready to plant my garden in 2 weeks here in the Pacific Northwest. I went to the dollar store and bought the triangle shaped stackable garden pots. These towers of 5 pots will be used for nothing but herbs. I have 1 raised garden beds that will have nothing but onions. I have another garden bed for zucchini and tomatoes.
My neighbors are going to think I am crazy but I have an old patio umbrella a friend was tossing away. I took off the fabric and will be placing it in a stand. I have a kiddie wading pool with holes in the bottom. Put the umbrella in the middle, run string from the soil to the umbrella and fill the wading pool with soil. I am growing green beans in the wading pool and using the umbrella as a trellis for the beans to grow
up. I will use string to tie the umbrella down so it doesn’t top over.
I will also be using black bags to grow potatoes. And some grow bags for anything else I can think of. Oh lettuce and spinach are growing in the hydroponic system in the garage. Year round lettuce for my family, friends and food bank.
And these geniuses didn't think about self sustainability during Biden's years? LMAO
5:00 gee… kinda like eggs are usually cheap?
I'd add both potatoes & sweet potatoes. Both give a lot of calories per effort. And sweet potatoes give not only the tuber, but a leafy green, also. In a recession garden, it's great if you can get all of your caloric intake from your garden. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are the easiest way to get that.
Do you carry Chicory seeds?
Great video! Great to hear from so many like-minded People. I’ve been expanding my gardens and preserving the last couple years. Last year invested in a freeze-dryer, so worth it, and another large freezer. Green house 2 years ago. The grown kids all got freeze- dried and canned foods in there Christmas goody bags. Adding more raised beds this year and more fruit trees and elderberry bushes . I skin, cube and freeze zucchini in qt. Bags. Works great to take them right from the freezer and add to soup, stir fry and homemade dog food. Love your videos and seeds!
I really want to grow greens year round. We are in MN and it costs a fortune to try to heat the greenhouse during* the winter
If you have a way to set up something that is effective and efficient in the house would appreciate a video on that
Recessions are inevitable when you have Republicans ruining the government.🙄🙄🙄
I drink chicory barley coffee all the time! With date powder as sweetener. It is delish and my body thanked me
If I am in Wisconsin close to Canada, they say we should start our garden after Memorial Day. Our growing season is short, what should I do to extend the growing period?
I am well versed on what's happening. I dont wanna dampen the desire to urge people to grow their own healthy organic veggies but also don't go nuts and panic. I swear this isn't going to be the end lol. But I will continue to garden, can, preserve and raise chickens as well as compost. Sticks rebounded quit predictably today.
We are going to be just the fine. But it’s always good to be prepared.
I think that for some time now, with the homesteading movement, gardening has been expanding. I also think people are desiring to grow their own food so they know what is in it. If these times serve no other purpose than to make people aware then that's a good thing. I planted some MI Gardener seeds this year for the first time. I'm excited to watch them grow!
Depending on how far south you are ( here in the USA) you may want to grow sweet potatoes as well. Like regular potatoes they do not require any thing complex to store them over 3 to 5 months. And you can do all the same things you do with real potatoes.
Thank You
Suggestion, instead of zucchini and butternut squash, grow tromboncino. It does get hit by squash bugs. And harvest it green and use as zucchini(tastes better to me too), or let it cure on the vine and use it like butternut. Love this plant.
Roasted Dandelion root also tastes like coffee. Stores sell it in fea bags
I have expanded my garden this year. I agree with all of these essentials
21:13 i live in a corn state and it's been impossible in recent years to buy decent corn cheap. Corn, even commercially, isnt the most consistent harvest and with the wild weather already? Im glad we have corn seed. And im glad you have better access to corn than we do.
24:27 im hoping my experiment with overwintering my sunchokes works – if so might be a bit easier than potatoes. We struggle with time, energy, and physical health.
You are a few years too late for this video.
Also, keep an eye on what's in the water we're using. Notice appeared from city (no well water users here) regarding: TMDL Action Plan-Public Comment Notice. TMDL is defined as the total maximum daily load of a pollutant that a body of water can receive while still meeting water quality standards. Before this notice came in, I recall hearing chatter about increased chloramines being intentionally added to water in different parts of the USA.
The S&P 500 was up 9.56% today (the day you posted this) The Nasdaq was up over 12%. You never talked about the economy on this channel before. Stick to gardening.
