So this is my first time buying a plant online, and as I was fixing her up I noticed these little sesame seed looking things. I only have one spot for my plants right now so I’m worried about putting it next to them. I just got it so I just watered it. It would be going under a grow light with my other plants.

I’m no expert but that’s gotta be some kind of bug

Looks like mealy bugs. Lots of them. Keep it away (like not even in the same room) as any other plant.

Mealy bugs. Take a q-tip and dip in rubbing alcohol then squish them. Every single one you see. Then spray the entire plant with neem oil, OR give the leaves and stems a soapy bath.

Wow I cannot believe they shipped that with such a bad infestation. Shame on them

How much was it? What a shame. I think you’ve done the best thing for the sake of any other plants you have, Chuck and prop a bug free bit, might be worth giving the cutting a good spray or dunk in something in case eggs/larvae etc are squirrelled away

    Boo 😭 that’s so annoying

Would you leave a review or can you contact the seller direct?

If you’re anywhere near Indiana, I can give you some of my bananas!

I would be sending it right back to them.
Send photos and arrange to return it for a refund would be my advice.

    mealybugs 🙁

[Here’s](https://www.reddit.com/u/charlypoods/s/fB8XxJWjCY) my mealybug treatment protocol I’ve been updating and fine tuning for the last several months. It has been called an aggregation of many methods, so i guess hopefully at least one or two can be applicable for you. It’s really thorough I think and I really do believe in the step by step nature of it. I am always trying to make it more user friendly, accurate, and readable, so it is always a work in progress. If you have any questions, suggestions, or critiques please lmk.

My first and last plant came from Amazon because it arrived infected with scale. I now only buy plants I can see and inspect myself.

I’m surprised this thing is alive. It’s more mealy bug than it is plant at this point

As a Canadian, I didn’t even know you could buy plants off Amazon.

That’s not a plant with mealybugs. That’s mealybugs with a bonus plant attached.

    Shudder

go to your local nurseries instead of ordering from amazon. Way better quality and you get to support your community 🙂

Throw it away immediately! It’s not worth the hassle, and your other plants will get infested.

My super long dolphin also had this! 🥲 I had to throw it away

Smash those mealybugs and spray something like parafine(oil) to knock down the crawlers.
