I'm still a very new plant hobbyist, but ive acquired a decent amount of plants since I started collecting a year ago. I bought this polly maybe a month or two ago, and I hate her. She was so cute in the nursery, but the longer I stare, the uglier she gets and her leaves are already rotting and she has infested my whole collection with fungus gnats. (see the yellow trap hiding my beautiful micans in the background??)
I HATE pests, especially fungus gnats, and regularly treat all of my plants with hydrogen peroxide, mosquito bits, neem oil, insecticide granules, but this bi$h keeps birthing more gnats. I would rehome her, but I wouldn't dare gift someone else the never-ending gift of fungus gnats so I'm left with no choice but to dispose of her and her ugly rotting leaves. I'm going to try propagating the corms, but I'd rather Marie Kondo this one to make room for a prettier alocasia or anthurium.
Please join me in a moment of silence and prayer as she joins the Alocasia Graveyard 💀 😇 🙏

Marie Kondo that bitch!! I did it with a Norfolk Pine that was most definitely *not* sparking joy. So long!
It feels great to yeet these into my compost
Check out nemaknights nematodes. Best thing I found to eradicate fungus gnats
I don’t get them on my house plants as I let them dry back between watering. I do get them in my Marijuana grow and the nemaknights nematodes are the best I’ve found. I’ve tried other nematodes but they were a pain in the ass and didn’t work. These are little pearls that dissolve and release the nematodes over a day or 2. I follow the directions and only have to apply 2x

Send her my way lol 😁

Ya gotta treat her like a side piece- neglect, bottom water when you can remember, and insecticidal spray when she acts up. She does better when she’s almost dried out, then you can come by and romance her with a little drink…
Semihydro! Get you a small bag of Leca balls and both of you will be happy!
Bugs are part of growing, you’ll have a much easier time with far less stress if you can learn to accept a few.
And get some mosquito dunks, they work better than anything.
Dump the neem, it’s absolutely useless and all it does is harm your plants by blocking the stomata.
Alocasia are a bit more fussy than most, and really don’t make great houseplants tbh. They need conditions met, and a windowsil or a side table doesn’t cut it.
Mine hates me as well. Doesn’t seem to want to do anything at all.
Gift it away with a notice of the issues. Many plant lovers will work to save her!
A labor of love to many such as myself
Oh, no! Sorry to hear. My Polly is hanging in there, but my 2yo frydek is looking to be unalived pretty soon 😠 I’m sick of the guessing games. I adjust and give her something she wants and in no time flat, she’s making new demands, only she doesn’t speak so there I stand scratching my head and measuring the strength it would take to casually toss her out of my bedroom window so that I don’t traumatize the onlooking plants. 🤔
I love them but I legit can’t keep them alive for the life of me 😭😭😭
Just lost my third one
It had been a few years since I got one again
Two weeks and ded 🫠🥸
If you growing in soil then you risk fungus gnats with all plants. I would take that place in a minute! Remove the soil and say goodbye to fungus gnats.
