Every spring around this time I usually just do the basic and apply Scott’s Weed and Feed for crabgrass and to feed my lawn. However, a couple people suggested this year I try the Milorganite nitrogen slow release. To my understanding, that will help feed my lawn and make it green. However, is it safe to still apply a crabgrass/weed preventer at the same time? Should I split it up and wait a few weeks to apply one after the other?
Or any other suggestions?
Thanks

Do. Not. Use. Milorganite! Especially in cooler temperatures. It’ll sit on your lawn until heat comes and finally breaks it down and you just get smacked in the face with an application out of nowhere. Others will give you the whole PFAS argument as well as lawns not really needing much P.
You can use Milorganite at the same time as other stuff. It’s slow release.
I used it when we got a new puppy instead of 4 step. I was very impressed with the results and used it the following year in between 4 step applications. I just use 4 step these days especially giving the prices of everything.
The answer on when to use Milo is, Never…Never, and Never.
Lowes carries usually, Lesco Stonewall 0-0-7. This will help keep weeds away. And Lesco 30-0-10, a good general fertilizer. If they don’t have them, look for a SiteOne. In fact, go there first and also get some Carbon ProG…good for soil health…
The way this sub has gone from extremely pro milorganite to anti is pretty odd. It works great for me in NorCal on tall fescue.

I used Milo once. It was very expensive, because I have such a big yard. But man, did my yard look good. I had the best looking yard on the block! Unbelievable. Never seen it look that good. Did get crazy weed growth though in some areas. But still was worth it. Unfortunately, I never did it again because it was so expensive and lasted only a short amount of time. I switched to synthetic fertilizer. I use Scott’s Triple Action. Works fast and great results. And much cheaper! The point is, if you have money to spend and don’t care then Milo. Or do both Milo and Synthetic at the same time because you can never overdose on Milo. If not then synthetic.
Get OceanGro. Quite a few places have it in NJ and it’s basically the same thing for much less because it’s sourced from OceanCounty.
