Vegetable container gardening is a versatile and rewarding method of growing your own fresh produce, especially if you have limited space or no traditional garden. By utilizing pots, tubs, or other containers, you can cultivate a variety of vegetables on balconies, patios, windowsills, or any small outdoor area. This approach is ideal for urban dwellers and those with mobility challenges, as it allows for easier access and customization of the growing environment.

One of the key advantages of container gardening is its flexibility. You can grow anything from leafy greens like spinach and lettuce to root vegetables such as carrots and radishes, or even compact fruiting plants like cherry tomatoes and peppers. The containers can be moved to optimize sunlight exposure or shield plants from adverse weather conditions.

With proper care, including selecting the right soil mix, ensuring adequate drainage, and watering consistently, your vegetable plants can thrive. Additionally, using containers minimizes weed growth and allows for more efficient pest control, making it a relatively low-maintenance gardening option.

It’s a fantastic way to enjoy fresh, homegrown produce while making the most of your available space and bringing a touch of greenery into your life!

  2. Thanks Ivan, for this great update and reminding us to get things sorted ready to get going and sowing. Take care and all the best. Stevie

  3. Great to see you back for 25 Ivan just started sorting my soil today and cleaned the pots all the best I am in the Fenlands so not far you 👍👍

  4. Hi Ivan, I cannot wait to see what you manage to grow this year.
Today is my first day off of 2 weeks. I plan to give my patio a wash and then put my containers where they need to go. This year is my first year growing in a greenstalk. Just bought another 2 for salad bits as I already planted my first one with strawberries

  5. We are all hoping for a better growing season than last year. Just check your recycled compost for vine weevil. I grew some oca in pots last year and noticed that there were lots of vine weevil in the pots when I emptied it out. They survive the winter. They don't seem to be a problem with soil in the ground but in pots they are, for some reason. I've never known them before in pots with veg but I suppose there is always a first. Perhaps it was the cold wet summer we had last year. Who knows.

  6. Do you miss the larger space to grow or are you enjoying challenging yourself with the smaller space?

  7. Love your channel and your resourcefulness. Top tips and advice. Could you do me a favour though? Give your lens a quick wipe. I always think its my glasses are dirty but I think you have a smudge on the old lens 🤣

  8. Great to see you getting ready for the growing season Ivan shall look forward to watching you & all your gardening tips …..Happy Carnan gardening 👍

  9. Can’t wait to start sowing. Can you answer a question please. I was bought a planter like yours- do we have to replace all the compost or do we add feed to it before using for a second time ?? Thanks

  10. Last year you had a very successful maiden season of caravan container gardening. Certainly inspired me to grow more . This year other than my greenhouse I have some large planters to fill. Learned so much last year from you it was like going to a virtual open university of horticulture. Your videos including your caravan life ones are indeed an education. Look forward to more this year. Thank you 🙏🏻
