I do have some toad Lilly that I acquired from a Brookgreen Gardens plant sale . I live in Murrells Inlet, SC which is zone 8b. They are planted in dappled shade with fern and hosta, azalea and camellia. After 2 years in the garden, they have bulked up, but are not really spreading. They look like tiny orchids when they bloom!
Thank you so much for doing another shade garden focused video! We just purchased a home that is north facing and unfortunately, I am not used to picking plants for shade lol. So this was so helpful! I appreciate the recommendation of varying up foliage color to make up for the loss of “floral” plants that we can’t plant in shade. Those Pink-a-Blue Pulmonaria are definitely going on my buy list!! ❤
Does anyone know the "name" of Laura's rake today? I have looked at other video's and havent seen it posted. Thanks!!
Holly ferns are reliable shade plants for me in my coastal NC 8b garden.
Now it's just so beautiful
I just bought pink a blue lungwort on your recommendation. It is a gorgeous plant!
Today’s video and music just filled my soul. Thank you for always inspiring me. I tried a barefoot Toad Lilly once and it didn’t make it in my 7b shade. I’m inspired to try again.
I love Russell!! He’s always ready for his close up 😂😂😂❤🐕
Ooo that Kenilworth Ivy goes berserk here (Melbourne, Australia) it grows in our neighbours and has spread everywhere, all over the fence and everywhere in our garden. I keep pulling in out and it’s back in days choking everything out. Interested to know how it goes there.
My toad lilies always bloom in late summer early fall. Everything is coming back but they haven't yet. Hopefully they do. Looks gorgeous!!!
I love the shade garden. Used to have one and I converted it to grass, which is filled with weed violets, so now I want it back as a shade garden.
I love you so much, so real, my friend.
Who knew Lily's of the Valley spread like crazy and are poison to pets? This means I need to relocate mine that are in the fenced-in area of my backyard between a hydrangea and a huge fern. Any suggestions as to when to move them to the front yard?
If the bike didn’t come with training wheels, take off the foot pedals and turn it into a balance bike. It’s a great way to teach kids quick how to balance safely.
Love the videos! Question, did yall ever figure out where Douglas came from? Or do yall share custody of him with his original owners?
Does anyone know what the leafy green tree/plant is between the beech and the viburnum?
❤❤❤❤❤
Question; When you plant out plants why don’t you let the birds feed their young on the aphides instead? In my garden you will suddenly see way more activity from birds and see more ladybirds and wow! No more aphids!
I love Kenilworth ivy, it grows from seed very easily and does really well on rocks or cracks between steps. It has an interesting habit when producing seed, as the flowers fade the turn around and grow towards the darkest area to deposit the seeds. This results in a very effective self seeding on rock faces as it can place its seeds right inside any cracks to grow. It does spread but it's easy to pull out so not an issue.
How on earth do you run drip to all those plants?? This would be a great area for Aaron to do a how to video!
Hello Douglas and Russel
❤
You give me so many ideas for shade, except I really want to get deer resistant ones.
Look at that weeping willow!
Good morning everyone! Happy gardening.
I look forward to each video with my coffee! Love your channel and family! Thanks for teaching us so much! I live in central Alabama!
That groundcover (kenilworth ivy) looks so pretty.
So pretty! What ever happened to the Corydalis Porcelain Blue that you planted in that area a few years ago? I thought that true blue was so pretty!🤗💙🩵💙🩵
Gonna be beautiful 😍
Hi Laura. I’ve heard that it’s difficult to transplant Victoria Poppies due to the long taproot. I have one that doesn’t ever reseed but I would love to move it. Have you ever moved yours? Thanks so much for all you’ve taught me over the years of following. ❤😊💚
You could make a spring boxwood wreath with the boxwoods you are taking out.
I love ferns. I had a Boston fern in a big pot for years that grew over 3 feet across. I had to give it away because I bought new lawn furniture and I didn’t have a shady spot for it in my backyard anymore. Her name was Bertha. Lol
love those shades of green… the spring tour is going to be gorgeous!! have fun shopping with your mom!!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
I have enjoyed watching your show. I have learned so much from them.
Question, how do you set up a drip line in that area?
Thank you for teaching me about shade gardens, I just built a beautiful Hosta garden under my big cedar tree out front, and hostas and hellebores in my shady tropical garden in back. If you get a chance, please check out my channel, K2 Garden Adventure, my latest video is renovating my Druid Circle Garden

Will you be carrying the smaller sized kangaroo bag?
