So i got this from a facebook group and it was delivered through national post. Upon arrival it looked a bit flattened, but seemed to recover after unpacking and being sprayed with water.
My initial plan was to keep it in water until it starts growing roots and then move it to a mix of perlite and coco peat. This is my first ever dieffenbachia and one of the few houseplants i have. Any opinions? The plant is placed in my room that gets about 4-5 hours of indirect sunlight per day

First, I would remove the lower leaves; the cutting needs strength for the roots.

Then I would place at least 10cm of the stem in water. This gives more place to root, and the plant will quickly become stronger. You should be careful with the part of the plant standing in water, the leaf stalk remains will turn brown over time, so you should change the water regularly for the first 1-2 weeks. Once all the remains are gone, you can leave the water in for longer; this promotes root growth.

i did that 3 times with my plant at work and all cuttings with leaves grow very well.

    Good luck!

My diffenbachia started doing this when I had thrips. I’d check for those and any other kind of pest

I would shorten the stem to where the curve is. I imagine the plant is recovering from being cut and mailed. It looks like it was a mature cutting so it may take some time to adjust. Even if you have leaf loss, given time it should recover, assuming that you don’t have a pest problem.

A wider more open container for water is better. More gas exchange can occur that way.
