Live in Houston, TX. Long story short we bought our house 2.5 years ago and it was 100% St. Augustine. Nearly all of it died (or so I thought) and I did a pretty shoddy job of cutting it low, tilling, aerating, and re-seeding with Bermuda Grass since my father-in-law does nothing but say how much he loves his.

1-1.5 years later and I have a horrible mix of St. Augustine, Bermuda, clover and weeds and wondering what I have to do… There is not much intermingling, the areas are either thick with St. Augustine or Bermuda and weeds.

I have no preference on the type of grass, just want it to look like a standard filled in lawn. As of these photos all I have done is spread a Southern Weed and Feed to try and kill the clover and weeds. Ideally I'd like to try it myself because I don't need anything fancy, but how would y'all go about getting this little square back in good favor? I'd also note that in the 4th picture I have a low spot on the 3 o'clock side of my lawn where water pools up with only 2-3 inches of rain, probably a 4×4 foot area when it really rains.

Saving this for the landscaping sub, but any advice or comments on the staked portion would be useful too. Total staked area is ~350 sqft., thinking of just doing standard beds lined with pavers on the back left portion and doing either a putting green or lined area with stones for a chair and table set in the area right of the tree.

a professional won’t put the time in to convert this.

they will put you on a standard schedule

if you want only st augustine or only bermuda then you’ll have to get some customized routine.

both are fine grasses just decide

quinclorac kills st augustine in bermuda. i did this.

  2. That is a very small and manageable area. Do it yourself

  3. You could have it looking like a golf fairway in a month with some effort.

Heck, with only fertilizer and a mower I bet you could crowd out those weeds over a season.
