Seeded last November and my Scott’s seed spreader seems to be leaking a heavy line of seed. When not engaged it doesn’t lose any seed, but as soon as I start spreading I lose extra along my walking line.

I’m going to have to oversee once the ground firms up a bit, so I don’t want to waste as much.

It’s most likely the wheels. You need solid wheels on the ones r
That are hollow or this happens

Unfortunately Scott’s spreaders have issues with particles of whatever you’re spreading getting stuck in the wheel wells and dropping out.

I just bought an Echo spreader. Haven’t tried it yet, but after 15yrs of a Scott’s (drop, which doesn’t have an issue) spreader I decided it was time to upgrade a bit.

    Scott’s spreader?

If you don’t want to buy a new spreader, you have to walk faster when applying product. Like almost at a “power walker’s” pace. By doing so, the spreader plate spins faster and flings the fertilizer above the wheels instead of at them.

Turn your rate down? Scott’s spreaders are bottom tier but to get lines like that, usually, it’s cause your rate is to high and the spreader plate can’t keep up. With those spreaders you’re walking slow with a low rate. Almost a crawl. Vs say an Anderson you can fine tune all of it.

Echo RB-60 and two zipties…all you need for a better spreader..

  6. This happened to me last year with the used Scott’s spreader I picked up on marketplace. Totally set my lawn are improvement plan back a full year before I realized what was happening. Bought an earthway 2600a a few weeks ago and worth every penny thus far (granted, I’ve used it once but it work great)

  7. I’d get a rake or blower out and get those lines spread out so it doesn’t burn or make the grass look funky as it grows
